Half-Life series

i noticed that people stared chatting about the episodes on the current game thread so i thought you might want a place to chat about the series as a whole and discuss tactics if your stuck.

I predict this will eventually diverge onto the source engine and valve in general. :D

the only reason im playing HL2 Ep 1 is because i want to know what's going on in episode 2. iv heard from alot of people that the 1st episode was a let down.
I played it for the same reason, I wanted to play through for the story. It did it's job, but it could have done a lot more.

EP1 isn't as bad as everyone says. It's not fantastic, and there are times when it feels like there are some crazy arbitrary limitations on what you can and can't do, but these create tension which serves to make it scarier. Not the greatest, but not as bad as people always seem to say.

i was disappointed when the gravity gun was reverted to the original form in episode 1 :D

I was glad, because that gun in super awsome power mode just destoryed all the neat guns, those balance bastards.

I hear Episode Three is coming out on the same day as Black Mesa: Source and Duke Nuken: Forever. :D

I only ever played the original, on the PS2 with those stylish blue-bottomed discs. I loved that game so much, still do, and when I get around to having a pc with a decent graphics card I believe it will be innevitable that I get the rest.

I'm now stuck on episode 2 because it lags WAY too much when i use the flashlight. :(

turn the graphic settings down? Or are they already that low? If yes, you can still set the direct x level lower. The command would be the following: -dxlevel 70, 80 or 81
If you simply don't want to set them any lower then just leave it off and pretend you're playing doom ;)

cool that worked thanks :p

doom 3? i hated hot the flash light didn't point where i looked and only hit the opponent if the reticule was on him, even if the flash light didn't seem to make contact.

Try Dead Space. It's still scary, but you have your flashlight mounted to your gun.

Edit: Oh, nvm, if you can't play Half-Life 2 properly you won't be able to play Dead Space. Unless you own a next gen console.

Anybody here know about the Half Life 1 remake?

To many mods never came out. They're official release date is "when it's done". I'll start getting excited about it the day it gets released. I'd prefer playing episode 3 or portal 2 though. Black Mesa would just be a nice thing to try out.

It's a pity they took co-op out, I was looking forward to playing with the campaign online with a friend.

Then again, it might not ever come out.

Wait, Half-life 2 has co-op capabilities?
