Girl quit team because not enough time for God

So I was talking with my friend who runs for his college and he told me their best female runner who made NCAA D1 nationals last year quit the team because she didn't have enough time for God. According to him, she lives above a church and goes down and prays (apparently for an extended period of time) inside it at least twice a day. She wants to become a nun, and it's likely she will since she says she would never even kiss a guy until her wedding day.

How the hell can someone live and think like this? I mean, even if you were a believer, God has been around for at least 14 billion years and you're going to spend eternity with him after you die. Surely he can spare a few hours a day. WTF?

I would hate to say it to a believer because I don't think insults work to your advantage very often, but I would classify this girl as insane.

Wow. Thats amazing. Shows what religion can do to a person. It can control every aspect of their lives.

If anyone spent that much time talking to an imaginary friend by any other name would be locked up in an asylum.

Wait wait wait, no KISSING UNTIL MARRIAGE??

Fuck me sideways, that's such a repressed way to live.

Since kissing isn't on I seriously doubt sideways fucking is likely.

Shit man, I dont know why people ruin their lives to appease the ego of an apparently all powerful diety.

It is sad, but it is her life. :|

This is why its important to try and reach the 'reasonable' ones, lest they end up like that poor sap.

People who have imaginary friends with other names are actually a lot less crazy, because with religion, there are people in positions of authority telling you that the imaginary friend is real.

EDIT: I mean more crazy.

It's easy to just subscribe to a simple way of life, and that is essentially what a lot of religions can provide. All those impossible questions suddenly have an answer, they may not be the right answer but it's a straight and seemingly simple answer. Then over time as you get used to living like this, you fool yourself into believing that it is true because you've told yourself so many times that it is. It's similar to how if you keep claiming someone is fat, even if they are not, they will eventually start to think that they might be.

In this case, following the simple timetable of praying to god at whatever time instead of doing something else is safer and simpler than a more... usual lifestyle.

Your thoughts?

Actually, I find it extremely saddening that someone can only apparently exist or feel they have worth if they subscribe to a particular view .

She will not be the first nor the last to need such an answer, and as such, surely represents the archetype of a non-reasoned/non-skeptical approach to life.

But the route of the skeptic is not for everyone. I'm sure that skeptical cows would produce sourer milk !
