With the top of the forum getting clutterred with stickies that seem to be essentially inactive I have taken the decision to "unsticky" them.

It now occurs to me that this might be unpopular, so I will put it to the members in the form of a poll. Numbers and participation, along with result, will determine the status of the topics. You can vote for up to 5 options, and you can change your vote at any time until the poll ends.

Funny pictures is a must in my opinion, and the Uberlinks is useful, although could do with moving to the "Creationism/ID" or else the "Religion and Irreligion" section.

Notable quotes and funny images should stay. not sure about member's quotes, the idea itself is great but it seems to have gotten a bit unpopular lately, so it seems to me.

we have rules above in the "League of Reason Site" subforum so no need for additional thread.

I hardly ever check forum by forum unless I'm looking for a particular thread or opening one myself, so I would suggest that it makes little difference to those who use the forum views dropdown menu which threads are stickied. I don't know how widespread its usage is, though.

I would say that the only real benefit of stickies is to newcomers.

My 20 pence opinion.

For notable quotes there are numerous quotations pages. For members' quotes, we need that thread. We also need the funny picture thread, as stated above. Thirdly, the warriors against something thread... I took a quick peek and it looks rather useful. I have been wondering whether that one should get moved to 'General Scepticism' though.

Yes and no, could be good to see what the LoR crowd likes, but there really are MANY pages with a big number of quotes, so this one is entirely up to the community

good idea, but if the interest now seems to be lost, well.. Let's hope it gets back up

The chat log thread, yay our own bash.org. unless the interest dies of course.

I don't think there's a loss of interest... just not too many witty comments recently.

Hmm, well, the early results suggest I'm well and truly wrong on this issue...

/me mumbles something about executive decisions.

I shall put it back as it was until the poll runs out, then crawl back into mi hole

How about grouping them in a subforum (i.e. "Lists" or "Random" or "Old Stickies"), unsticked?

This way the main GD forum gets cleared, but those threads don't get lost.

Just an idea.

I was just about to suggest a sticky for stickies. Consider it an archive. One sticky for all stickies. New stickies could be displayed on the main page and then relegated to the sticky sticky after a reasonable period so that they're easy to find later.

That was exactly my first idea. Then I realized that a subforum does precisely that: displays them in the main page, and relegates them to other pages after a reasonable period of time - depending of the recent activity, while being easier to find (smaller population of posts). Additionally, we don't mix together the stickies that should be in this forum with the normal stickies (normal posts in the subforum) with the own stickies that the subforum may have. And there's no need of anyone unstickiing them.

Brandywine (5000 points if you get the reference) and Hackenslash's idea is a good one-although I'm not sure whether such a thing would allow us to continue posting in the "archived" stickies. If yes, then why not just put all of the stickies in there from the start and have a subforum called somethig along the lines of "Popular Threads"?

Does this hobbit get 5,000 points? What can I spend them on?

:geek: I suppose... :p
A brand new copy of Lord of the Rings. Or the Hobbit. Or anything else by Tolkein.

There doesn't seem to be much support for Funny chatlogs and notable quotes... my guess being that the logs aren't funny and the quotes are ubiquitous.

I'm not sure if someone's said this, but the "Rules of LoR Chat" thread can be moved to the "Read the Rules" subforum. It's a more fitting place to put it and it clears space.

It's been said, but it seems to be ignored...
But anyways, yeah.. IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE HERE!

And also. STFU! Chatlogs stay!

No, thank you. Also, please rename the thread: "Unfunny chatlogs!!!". Bit of honesty never hurts.
