Freedom of Speech Attacked By the UN

I am going to do my best to be factually correct in my assertions, though this is difficult considering how little information is available on the subject. In October of 2008, the United Nations passed a non-binding resolution urging its member countries to institute laws banning any criticism of the Islamic religion. A binding resolution has been proposed and may already have been passed. Oddly, the only national coverage I have been able to find on the progression of this resolution aired in February, before the binding resolution was to hit the floor of the General Assembly. Interested parties can find the story (Christopher Hitchens on Lou Dobbs' program) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQbPYxTL9D4 (I haven't figured out if HTML tags are allowed here or not). There is other information available, which I am flipping through now. My problem with this is that no one is discussing it! One story in the US? No international coverage? For those of you in the UK, perhaps you can tell me if there has been significant coverage there. Any information / discussion on this topic is MORE THAN WELCOME! I will post more later this evening or tomorrow morning when I have more information, and you can expect a video regarding this on my YouTube channel "InModiasWeTrust". Once again, one of our fundamental human rights, that of free expression, is being threatened by the largest international political body in history! Please help me do something about it!

Good. The less it is discussed, the better.,

Edited to add: This is a publicity stunt from the fundamentalist Muslim theocratic governments. The less we comment, the less publicity they get, the better off we are.

Fortunately, the UN has no power to push this on other countries. It is one of the most ludicrous resolution to ever pass though, and confirms the UN as a joke.

People are already being arrested for it under the guise of "defamation". Should we remain silent about that as well? I understand your point, but I'm not convinced. I will be sure to get as much information as I possible can before making a new post. If you sincerely believe I should be quiet about this, I will need more definitive reasons.

Perhaps the UN has marginalized itself to such an extent that the democratic member states should accept that it is now irrelevant and get out. Perhaps we should take Lou Dobbs' advice and simply bulldoze the building.

Yeah, we should get on board with the most anti-American media idiots, like Lou Dobbs... that's a great plan.

I agree with the sentiment of bulldozing the building but only so we can start again. The big problem with the UN was the failure to force member countries to sign the declaration of human rights. With no basis to work from and no agreed goals the UN just goes around in circles.

Right... the problem is that it isn't powerful enough, not that it has too much power.

I don't think having everyone sign the declaration of human rights would give the UN more or less power, just a clear direction.
