I know a few of you are college age and likely need to save a few bucks here and there and others are like me and are on limited incomes. I was introduced to Freedompop a month or so ago. I was skeptical at first. I couldn't believe there was really a way to get these services for free. After investigating a few weeks I finally decided to give it a shot. They offer 200 mins talk, 500 text messages, and 500 mb data each month. For free. Forever. Admittedly it isn't nearly as reliable as a major carrier. It uses Sprint's towers (3g/4g) as well as any wifi you have access to. But so far I haven't had problems with reception where I generally use it. As a result I have ditched my $60+ a month cellular bill. There are also other plans you can sign up for if the free services don't offer enough volume for you. All of which are bargains IF the phone works for you in the areas you need it. You can purchase a phone directly from them or do as I did and buy one on ebay (Samsung Victory $50). You should probably do some checking if you decide to buy and activate your own device though. It is pretty limited which models and from which carriers they can come from.

It was a bit of a gamble but for $50 to buy the phone it was worth trying. Worst case scenario I sell the phone on ebay and eat a loss of a few dollars tops. But I can't see going back to my old carrier at this point. There are a variety of positive and negative reviews around the interwebs. I think it all comes down to expectations though. If you know what it is and how you can use it before hand it's positive (it is free after all) but if you use it expecting it to be a perfect replacement for your regular carrier it can be frustrating and end up a negative experience.

I don't get paid by these guys and am in no way associated with them. I just thought I'd share because I found it to be a helpful service. I'm a big fan of free. I'm not positive but I think it might be available in the UK as well. I didn't try to find out for certain but I think I saw where it might be.
