fictional technology you wished to be real

i would be suprised if no one here read science fiction stories, and in alot (if not all) there is a form of technology that doesn't exists here... yet.
and some it if, would be too awesome if it really existed.

so;
what kind of fictional technology would you like to exist?

one of my favorites i would love to be real, would be; Automail, from the story fullmetal alchemist.
it's a form of prostetics, which can be used to replace lost limbs.

Plot:
Edward and Alphonse Elric are two alchemist brothers searching for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, a powerful object which would allow them to recover their bodies. After their mother's death, Edward becomes determined to bring her back through the use of alchemy, an advanced science in which objects can be created from raw materials. They research Human Transmutation, a forbidden art in which one attempts to create or modify a human being. However, this attempt fails, ultimately resulting in the loss of Edward's left leg and Alphonse's entire body. In a desperate effort to save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm to affix Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor.

Faster than Light Travel

Especially the one from Halo: the Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine.

Anti gravity repulsion systems. It Would make all forms of travel awesome!

Alchemy in fullmetal alchemist works by killing people on earth (an alternate dimension to them)

BTW, spoilers in the post.

I'd love the medical technology from Star Trek, capsules that can regrow kidneys, that sorta thing.

Nanite injections directly into my bloodstream which would self replicate and form the complete Encyclopaedia Britannica in my memory. For when I can't access Wikipedia. :D

The technology from the books "A Signal to Noise" and "A Signal Shattered" by Eric Nylund.

SPOILERS AHEAD (the whole book is about technology and what is done with it... READ THE BOOK NOT MY SPOILERS)
So basically they contact a guy, and this guy gives them a DNA sequence that codes for a protein. They don't know what it does but one of them injects herself with it. Turns out it goes through the genome and gets rid of DNA inefficiencies and all sorts of stuff (junk DNA). Cures cancer (since cancer is cells that keep replicating), (probably) cures aging, etc. Of course this protein teaches them a ton about how DNA works so basically it opens the door to genetic modification.
Then they get a nano scale computer that works off wave functions, that you can then put multiple of these "processors" together and get far more than "double" the power because the waves interfere with each other resulting in a sort of exponential gain (though they later discover that too many and the system becomes unstable, but they fix this sort of...)
They also get a teleporter device that draws energy from rotation.
Then they realize that using all the technologies together they can go to the center of the galaxy and draw from the rotation of the entire galaxy to not just teleport, but to copy themselves (the teleporter works off wave bifurcation), and they can use the computer to link the brains, and the system they set up to keep the nano-processors from going insane to link their own brains together, and all sorts of cool stuff that makes me think of the word "god", i.e. at that point the humans with that technology are indistinguishable from gods they have such crazy powers.
Spoilers end here...

Two things.
Firstly, faster-than-light travel and communication.
Secondly, the monolith aliens' technology from the Space Odyssey series.

Bloody Roar count as technology? What about Mass Effect? lawl, iunno, Simpsons?

*an advance form of nanite technology
*medical advancement to the point of ease.
*FTL Travel and the advancement of (trekking across parts of the galaxy, or universe, in a heartbeat, ala Mass Relays)
*Space exploration technologies that can give us a better insight on other worlds that are inhabitable or not
*Tardises. Self explanitory
*Magic. That's right. The invention of the abiltiy to manipulate timespace and all that dwells within it.

'Course, most of those are piggybacking off other ideas already here. Even Automail has a place within other universes, what with some characters have barely noticeable prostestics ('course, they were usually always paired with something MUCH more noticeable).

That was in the first incarnation of the show. The manga and the second incarnation have a much more practical way of explaining it.

Spoiler: GODDIDIT BUT IT'S ALSO PEOPLE AND THE SLEIGH NAMED ROSEBUD

cybernetic Implants which extremely boost all Brainfuntions (Memory, Speed, Learning/Understanding...)
+ a fast/direct Brain/Internet-Interface (so I can Download everything I need to know and directly Upload everything I have to say/show)

from which SciFi?
either Conjoiners-technology(Revelation-Space-universe(Alastair Reynolds))
or StarTrek Borg-technology

Something allowing telepathy. As versatile and excellent language is, it would be so nice to just "think" a concept to/with/at/from someone. I wish I could show people the worlds I create in my imagination, or the hard-to-explain ideas and thoughts I sometimes have, where language unfortunately would only get it across in a limited way. It would save so much time and effort, and could enhance communication to a massive degree. Preferably not something intrusive, where you can spy on other people's thoughts (although that may inevitably come with it), but at least being able to think things to people.

The uses would be endless. Imagine teaching with telepathy, or understanding learning disabilities, or even genius in other people. Imagine group decision making and coordination and planning, and true brainstorming like never before. Imagine showing people your imagination.

If that could happen, for me that would be just such a truly wonderful, miraculous, useful and enjoyable technology.

The Tri-corder, the be-all end all diagnostic tool from Star Trek. Just wave it around, "weee-oooo weee-ooo" and bang you know the problem with any mechanical device, any medical problem, and answers on any life-form you encounter. Unfortunately the tri-corder always just seems to spit out something about tachyon fields...damn tachyon fields.

So sort of like the braincap in "3001: Final Odyssey".

So unambitious
I want a genetically engineered genie, which I would immediately use to wish I had infinite wishes that it had to grant without any negative effects. I would then systematically wish random things; my first being, "I wish there were no bowls in the world." Just to mess with people :p.
And then, of course, I would wish for anything else I wanted on this list, eternal life, perfect health, superpowers, All of the suicide bomber's virgins from heaven, ect.

Pretty much everything out of Neuromancer and the Sprawl Trilogy, fully mobile artificial limbs(possibly with hidden weapons), direct neural jacking into computers, knowledge chips (going on vacation, just pop a chip in and you can speak the language and know the customs), urban arcologies, and common Cloning. If only we could get the world not to suck quite as much as it does there.

also Replicators from Star Trek TNG, but barring that Makers from Transmetropolitan (basically replicators that you put matter into and it manufactures things for you)

Replicators and medical science from Star Trek.

And for something fun, the morphing power from the Animorph books. For those who haven't read those books, it allows you to absorb the DNA of an animal through touch and then turn into that animal. Of course, I'd want to get rid of the 2 hour time limit and allow the morphing of all clothing. Granted, it would be a military nightmare, but hey, it would be worth it to be able to fly. :D

Would you want the ability to take that dna of animals you have already used, and then combine them? Like a chameleon, a snake, and a dolphin to make a Leviathan?

It's possible, though difficult to get the exact mix you want, if I recall right. Although I think the only case of that was using multiple strands of human DNA to make a unique human morph for one of the aliens using the technology.

Braintaping, braindumping and growing full human bodies (without personalities) from cloned cells. So you record the personality of your most productive people, grow a body without their flaws and dump the memories in. Presto new, highly productive human.
