Family Research Council Shooting - Am I Reading This Wrong?

Got into a FB 'argument' today...lol. It went along the lines of

"friend posts news article whinging that a political shooting isn't being used to drive leftists into the ground publicly"
->
I respond

Here's the article

Here's an actual report of the event

Here's the FB discussion

a section I forgot to expand for that shot, from me, reads:

But, I'll be the first to admit, I'm biased here. While I don't approve of the behavior of the gunman by any means, I don't think the event is nearly as noteworthy as they want it to be. He's been criticized by both sides, Isn't the Tea Party guilty of the same shit, when you think about it? Contrariwise, members of the LGBT community have already criticized Corkins, as did the LGBT Center that Corkins volunteered at.

So, am I missing something, overlooking something?

Lefties aren't normally gun nuts, don't normally talk about "taking out" their political opponents, and don't hold events at shooting ranges against their opponents... so you're fine.

Yeah there's isn't exactly a "Tiller the baby killer" echo chamber on the pro-choice side in the US, and good on you for not falling into the false equivalence that conservative minds will no doubt sell like their lives depend on it.
