Ok, so stupid people are false-flagging accounts belinging to people whom they don't agree with. Youtube is doing nothing about it. We've tried contacting youtube and nothing got changed. How about we demonstrate to Youtube how damaging its policy of ignoring shit like that can be?

Now, I completely understand the "don't stoop to their level" argument. But how about a demonstration. I am NOT suggesting false flagging the idiots who false flag us. that won't solve anythiong. How about.... False-flagging Youtube itself and the channels that it derives most of its money from? Here's one: google's official youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Google

As long as the false flagging issue is some thing "minor" channels deal with, youtube won't care. It's cheaper for them to ignore it, then to pay people to actually review the flagging activity. This will make them take notice. They will HAVE to take action.

If you disagree and would rather not do it, that's fine. But please consier taking action by either writing yotube a physical (that is NOT email) letter or filing a Better Business Bureau complaint like DonExodus2 suggests.

I think this is a terrible idea. Abusing the system is not a way to alert authorities to abuse of the system. You wouldn't murder the mayor's family to get him to crack down on homicide in the city

But you would stay seated on a bus to overturn institutionalised racism.

That's a special case, when the abuse is performed by the authorities themselves. If that is the case, then my argument is null. But YouTube isn't falsely flagging people.

Wait, my example is too dis-similar but murder can be compared to false flagging?

OK, fine, perhaps the murder argument was extreme. But I didn't say your argument was dis-similar: I said it was a special case, a subset. If the authorities are committing the atrocities, then asking the authorities for help won't work.

Hmmm, well I think the long history of civil disobedience would tend to contradict that sentiment.

Can I have an example please? I'm curious, and probably wrong. :D

Either way: do you think people should false flag YT to get them to do something about this?

Well you could check out the wiki page on the subject, there are many good examples.

I think where we might disagree is whether this is YouTube's problem or not. I don't really have much of an issue with the initial parts of their flagging system as it stands. Inappropriate videos probably get uploaded all the time, having a user reporting system is a sensible idea. Obviously, there is potential for abuse but I can put up with that part of it given the size of YouTube and the amount it has to deal with. On the other hand, their response to flagging is terrible. They claim to review flagged videos and yet they still wind up under the 'inappropriate' heading or users get warnings and banned for no apparent reason. YouTube's response to flagging is the problem, not so much the flagging itself.

I'm not sure, I have suggested this as a possibility myself - mainly to see what other people think. It's difficult to know whether it is a good idea given that we don't know how YouTube operates. If there is an automatic system which gives warnings and bans users then I think a good way to demonstrate there is a problem would be false flagging campaigns on high revenue channels. I remain to be convinced either way.

I feel like YT should add a "report user" feature, which would allow you to alert YT to false flaggers. That sounds like a better system.

I'm pretty sure that if we were to flag YT's channel, YT wouldn't deal with the issue, they'd just ban everyone involved for violating community guidelines.
