I am fed the shit up with the History Channel! All this "doomsday" "2012" Nostradamus Bullshit is starting to rub me in a not so enjoyable way!

All god damn day long, all they show anymore is fucking Nostradumbass predictions, end of the world crap, and a bunch of other conspiracy theory bull jizz. UFO hunters, fucking monster quest, bible code shit, and all this other garbage, is NOT FUCKING HISTORY!!! What the hell happened? History channel used to have so much good and informative stuff on it, and could even sometimes count as a credible source for a history paper, but now all they have is shit, pure shit. Whatever happened to all the WWII documentaries, and hitler footage? At least it was historically accurate and somewhat interesting.

I don't even see the history channel as being worth watching anymore. There is nothing on there that is informative or even interesting. I mean, every once in a while, on special occasions they will show documentaries related to said occasion, but for the rest of the year, its just fucking horse piss.

And the Discovery channel isn't much better. All they ever show anymore is fucking fishing reality or trucking shows. Nothing really to "discover". And when they aren't showing those, they are showing some other form of reality bullshit. (Storm chasers is an exception because its actually fucking awesome!) What the hell happened to these channels? I used to be able to watch them and actually learn something!

I guess they are just following trends. But I say fuck trends, show something worth watching and leave trends to the channels we don't have to pay for!

I just wanted to rant about this. I just pisses me off!

@Eidolon

I've been having exactly the same thoughts about the History Channel. These days their in-house documentaries seem to be entirely about hokum, and woo-woo nonsense, and not even entertaining woo-woo nonsense.

I noticed Discovery starting to dumb down about 8-9yrs ago, but their output looks like it's based on budget to me, IE: "reality" shows are cheap to make.

But yeah, History Channel looks like it's been taken over by fundies and sad new-agers.

I noticed the channels doing that a long time ago. That's why I rarely bother with them anymore. There's very rarely anything of interest now. I just browse YouTube and the internet for any good alternatives and sometimes you can find some quite interesting stuff. But it is a shame that the channels have gone the way of pandering to whatever's the most popular thing at the time!

Ah yes Discovery channel, a.k.a. "Cash Cab" channel. Not even their "Dirty Jobs" are dirty anymore.

As for History channel, I hear they have good shows on their HD channels. However, I'll be damned before I pay $60 a month for TV.

Don't forget National Geographic. They are stuck in a perpetual loop of King Tut, Giza, Titanic, vicious predators, killer asteroids or Nazi documentaries... their engineering-type docus are entertaining, though.

But yes, Discovery Channel is ridiculous. Today's programs: Ultimate Weapons, Extreme Explosions, Dirty Jobs and Destroyed in Seconds. Their target audience seem to be 10-year-old boys.

discovery used to be so much better, i however still enjoy mythbusters sometimes.

Mythbusters, and Storm Chasers are pretty much the only shows worth watching anymore. Everything else is either some kind of conspiracy theory crap or a show about the jobs you can get if you don't go to college. And timewarp just flat out sucks. They've already slowed down anything that could be interesting. Now they've run out of ideas and basically just HS film someone taking a piss to see what it looks like in slow motion.

History Channel has Modern Marvels, which is pretty much the only interesting show they have left. Everything else is just UFO's or end of the world crap. Oh, and not to mention Axe men, Swamp loggers, Extreme loggers, Ass loggers and about a dozen other shows about logging. Good God damn how many logging shows does this channel need!?

I don't mind a good Survivorman episode from time to time. Better than Logging shows at least. Though I should mention I don't have real cable, so I only see these shows online or when I'm on vacation.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. Survivor man and Man vs wild are ok too. There are so many crap shows I have a hard time remembering the few decent ones.

screw man vs wild, survivorman all the way. ^.x I heard that les stroud stopped doing that show becuase it aged him like 20 years.

Ah I think I've heard of that one before. Used to have music videos and such.

Apparently all they show now is Retards Gone Wild and furry porn.

Ah, good times. Yes, all young people here, once upon a time they actually played music videos... what the hell went wrong?

I've noticed Animal Planet has now jumped on the "ghostie" bandwagon as well. They have some show about ghost pets. It's probably the lamest thing I've seen in a while.

How can you bash anything but stormchasers? It's as much a drama reality as the others?
But I do agree, some of the teams are marvels, and the show is epic at times.
Time warp used to be awsome, but as mentioned, all the cool stuff have been done, stop it already.

It seems you have to get discovery science for anything not being strictly entertainment now. Although it seems that Discovery (N) has kept a much higher (although still going to the shit slowly) standard.

And who bashed future weapons? Excellent show about new tech, you might not like weapons, but the thinking and technology behind still should baffle you.
Ultimate weapons don't go as in depth as fw used to, but its not strictly shit like most the top ten show on discovery.

National geographic still has LOADS of engineering, yes!

Mythbusters FTW

and anything that is remotely normal to watch is complete crap anyways. Ice Road Truckers? Axe Men?!? Are you kidding me? Their defense, and that of any of my now former friends, is "oh, its history, because everything is history hurr durr!" Thats like having a math channel and all your programs are about cosine graphs.

History, Discovery, TLC, and Travel channels have died completely in the past ten years. I used to actually enjoy watching them, but history is nothing but religious and crap programming (American Pickers and Pawn stars on and off from 8 am to 1130 PM tonight. WTFF?), Discovery just sucks completely (todays lineup: religious infosessions, cash cab, overhaulin', mythbusters (which was only good for the first season, then that stupid girl and two gay guys joined), more cash cab, deadliest catch, more mythbusters), TLC was turned into the "I have a shitload of kids, whatch me on TV!" channel with the occasional fasion and midget shows, and Travel is, for some reason, all about Gambling and Food (I guess they're only focusing on america). Seriously, I saw two shows listed for today that werent devoted to some guy eating as much as he can.

Sorry to go off like that, its just that these channels used to be all I watched on tv, and now its like seeing my best friend shoot heroin into his eyeballs with a needle I just saw a hobo use to drain a puss filled blister in his ass crack. I could tell them to stop, but they probably wont listen, making the descent all the more painful to watch, or I could just leave them there and try to forget they existed (but thats hard, because, sadly, they still have some of the better shows on basic cable at 10am anymore)

nobody knows, but some experts theorize that producers noticed drunk college kids living in a house and being taped constantly was more of a cash bringer than showing anything that had even an ounce of taste.

arg-fallbackName="Jotto999"/>
Yeah, History has been very disappointing for me, I rarely watch it.
Nat Geo still has some great stuff on it, though maybe they've gone downhill a bit.
Discovery definitely went downhill a while back. The only thing I watch on it anymore is Life and Mythbusters, and the occasional interesting documentary.

FYI, Survivorman demolishes Man vs Wild.

Television is most likely adapting to their target audience. With intelligent people leaving the "idiot box" to the idiots, programming will naturally adapt and cater to the remain demographics ;)
