I'm an atheist because when I observe and rationally examine the universe around me, I don't see the need to invoke a supernatural entity.

I'm an atheist because I was raised in Asia, had bad experiences with Mormon relatives when I came to North America who claimed to have God and his eternal morals on their side, and figured that science had better explanatory power.

What's interesting about that one is that it tends to be more true of atheists that theists. Most atheists seem to have read the Bible... and in my experience the VAST majority of Christians have not.
