Ebola and science.

Ebola is in the news and could spread to other countries as we have a few cases in America but what science is doing is to try to stop its spread by quarantining was already in the bible thousands of years ago long before science knew about viruses, germs, etc.

Leviticus 13:43-44 "Then the priest shall look at it;and indeed if the swelling of the sore is reddish-white on his bald head or on his forehead,as the appearance of leprosy on the skin of the body,he is a leprous man.He is unclean. The priest shall surely pronounce him unclean; his sore is on his head."

So the priest as medical control officers were commanded to examine all sick individuals and take action to protect them and the community.

Leviticus 15:13 "And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he shall count for himself seven days for his cleansing, wash their clothes, and bathe his body in running water;then he shall be clean."

Numbers 19:19:20 "But the man who is unclean and does not purify himself, that person shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the Lord. The water of purification(SOAP)has not been sprinkled on him;he is unclean."

Leviticus 14:8 He who is cleansed shall wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean. After that he shall come into camp, and shall stay outside his tent seven days.

So even after a person recovered from his disease and returned from medical isolation, the individual was subject to very strict medical supervision for seven days under the medical orders of the priest to ascertain that they were truly healed.

Leviticus 13:46" He shall be unclean,.All the days he has the sore he shall be unclean. He is unclean, and he shall dwell alone;his habitation shall be outside the camp."

This is quarantining exactly what doctors and scientists are trying to do when it comes to Ebola.

Leviticus 4:11-12 "But the bull's hide and all its flesh, with its head and legs, its entails and offal;the whole bull he shall carry outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out,and burn it on wood with fire;where the ashes are poured out it shall be burned."

This is being clean as the remains of dead animals were burned.

Through out history man has doubted God's word and overlooked knowledge in it but many people could have been saved by following these laws on cleanliness and sanitation in the bible. And now science is telling us to do what God's word told us to do thousands of years ago to try to prevent the spread of Ebola..God's laws on cleanliness and sanitation are very important and could save your life and science has proven it.

There are about 300 laws about this because eventhough man didn't know, God knew how viruses, germs, etc are spread and God knew how to protect his people if they followed his laws and obeyed them sadly they didn't and so many people have died from past plagues that killed many people.Let us follow God's laws and live.

If the bible was such an authority on disease, why doesn't it mention anything about soap or germs?

Water of purification was soap that was made from animal fat, cedar oil, hyssop oil and it was a kindof sticky soap that a person had to scrub off to get clean but the bible does not mention germs but following these laws help to keep people safe.

Uh, water of purification was water mixed with the ashes of a cow of perfection, which was killed and burned while being watched ( that's important ) and then sprinkled on the tent and pots and pans and persons that became spiritually unclean....................................three days after exposure

This was in numbers, mind you.

The only two occurances of the word soap happened to be in Jeremiah and Malachi, and both times in an allegorical sense.

Your bronze-age people did not make a correlation between washing hands and preventing disease in 500 BC, if they had then perhaps their descendants would comprise slightly more than 0.2% of the world's population

I've got a better idea, lets toss the bronze age garbage away and fund research into Ebola and develop an understanding of the disease so we can actually figure out a cure/prevention for it.

All the stuff in the bible has contributed nothing in comparison to science to the prevention of disease.

I'd say god didn't know jack shit about it. Even your savior Jesus was clueless.

Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23
7:1 Now when the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around him,

7:2 they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with defiled hands, that is, without washing them.

7:3 (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they thoroughly wash their hands, thus observing the tradition of the elders;

7:4 and they do not eat anything from the market unless they wash it; and there are also many other traditions that they observe, the washing of cups, pots, and bronze kettles.)

7:5 So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?”

7:6 He said to them, “Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me;

7:7 in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.’

7:8 You abandon the commandment of God and hold to human tradition.”

7:14 Then he called the crowd again and said to them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:

7:15 there is nothing outside a person that by going in can defile, but the things that come out are what defile.”

7:21 For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder,

7:22 adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly.

7:23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

This is just one instance where Jesus says something crazy that is directly opposed to what we know about germs. He routinely says that sin is the cause for illness and that he can cure illness by forgiving sins. Please go elsewhere with the nonsense.

That was awful nice of him to tell us how to stop the spread of a virus that he created...

Leviticus 14 said:
1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “These are the regulations for any diseased person at the time of their ceremonial cleansing, when they are brought to the priest: 3 The priest is to go outside the camp and examine them. If they have been healed of their defiling skin disease,4 the priest shall order that two live clean birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the person to be cleansed.
5 Then the priest shall order that one of the birds be killed over fresh water in a clay pot. 6 He is then to take the live bird and dip it, together with the cedar wood, the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, into the blood of the bird that was killed over the fresh water. 7 Seven times he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the defiling disease, and then pronounce them clean. After that, he is to release the live bird in the open fields.
I wonder why no one anymore uses these biblical cures? After all they have a God guarantee to work.

Anyway, it's not exactly miraculous if the Bible says that quarantine is a good way to stop disease. It's just and observation that sick people make more people sick and the logical conclusion of that observation if you want to stop people getting sick. This is the case in most things the Bible actually gets (somewhat) right; they are mundane and trivial when it comes to claims about supernatural origin of knowledge.

I don't feel like waiting...

Word Origin
from alpha (as a neg. prefix) and kathairó
Definition
unclean, impure
NASB Translation
impure person (1), unclean (29), unclean things (1).

169 akáthartos (an adjective, derived from 1 /A "not" and 2513 /katharós, "clean, purged") – properly, not pure (because mixed), i.e. adulterated with "a wrong mix" and hence "unclean" (because tainted by sin).

The antonym, 2508 /kathaírō ("clean"), means "free from wrong mixture" (unadulterated, unmixed).

Now Mr. ACB, tell us how you get your conclusion that they were talking about germs and virus's in those fancy verses. Because to me, it sounds a heckuva lot more like they were referring to sin = unclean. Be forewarned though, if you state anything, I want a cited source. I don't care where it is from as long as it is at least from some one who actually studies these types of things. Taking your word on what you think it means doesn't and I repeat DOES NOT account for Jack.

bla bla bla bla...
In the words of Calilasseia, "Supernaturalism and it's tenets were tested to destruction in 1346" - when the church charlatans and preachers utterly failed to combat the black plague. 100 million deaths by following biblical pronouncements and self-appointed enforcers of doctrine. Thanks but no thanks.

Bad air my ass. Literally!

I actually agree but I think you need to re-read what I wrote because I said sadly his people did not follow these laws and many people died because they took them for granted however after everything was tried by science and doctors at the time of the black plague and Christians at the time as both were wrong at the time but it was Christians that prayed for an answers from God and eventually found the answer in these laws that were finally tried and it is what stopped the Black plague and they have a statue in Vienna as a remembrance of it.God's word has proven both Christians and non-Christians wrong at times in history. It was removing the sick outside the camp - quarantining- that stopped the black plague.

It seems obvious to me that the priest is examining the person to ascertain if he/she has a contagious illness such as leprosy and he was to take immediate action when he determined the sickness was contagious,it seems clear to me by reading the text. Even apostle Paul being a jew knew about these laws and how soap is made to cleanse the flesh in the NT "Hebrews 9:13 "For if the blood of bulls and goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:" This soap purified the flesh but God wants us spiritually clean also but that is another subject.

It is more important to be spiritually clean than physically clean which was the point of Collecemalls post above when the Pharisees asked Jesus why his disciples did not wash their hands when they ate as they knew the law however they were spiritually unclean according to Jesus as you cannot just keep some of the law if you are under the law,you must keep all of it which they were not doing, yet they were judging his disciples and acting "Holier than thou"

Thanks for your response but if it is so observable why have so many people died from past plagues? How come they did not remove the sick outside the camp?I don't buy it.This is an area where God word is right and man was wrong. We all die because we have sinned but there is a cure to have everlasting life that even Ebola cannot effect.
