I watched the DPRJ video and couldn't see anything wrong with it.

How does the YouTube system work?

Since YouTube policy is clearly stated as one of "no comment" on internal decisions, policy, and process, in part because each incident is truly unique and so may bring up an array of issues that might be weighted differently than a case that looks outwardly identical, it's really almost impossible to say how it works with anything like confidence. This is mostly not something that YouTube chooses... the guidance almost certainly comes to a great degree from legal staff, mixed with the risk tolerance and interpretations of management. And very few companies are willing to be that transparent even when there are no compelling privacy issues or implied, fiduciary or statutory responsibilities to serve the various interests of stockholders, the enterprise, advertisers, content providers and casual viewers.

There are many voices concerned that there should be some clear and reasonably accessible appeals process, but at this point (I might be mistaken) I don't see much sign of that, at least not anything very evenhanded or formalized or presented in a way that is clear and readily accessible to all.

Which seems to mean that relatively passive protests like this, where large numbers of suspensions would draw more bad press attention, do have what amounts to an undue influence, something not available to a content provider if they are not prominently known within the community in the way DPRJones and others are. Not that I'm saying there's something wrong about that... it's YouTube's managerial choice how to handle these situations and lack of (or at least lack of the appearance of) an evenhanded appeals process is at least part of what has contributed to the current mess, aside from human nature. IMO.

You can make inferences from as much as you can observe, but given there are lots of legal and privacy issues involved, YouTube is limited in what they can safely and responsibly reveal about the claims, counterclaims and so on (whatever they might be in this case).

If DPRJones is willing to discuss his side openly (and if he's an attorney, my guess is chances are small that he would want to be entirely forthcoming) you might get one side. But I expect there are at least a dozen sides to this, since we have no clear info on just how the video was flagged or exactly why the channel was suspended, and there are so many possible options. And the whole creationist/rationalist debate is probably viewed (by YouTube management) as a nuisance, and not terribly ad-friendly by YouTube, so I wouldn't get too hung up on any assumption that the debate is making them lots of filthy loot. Even if it is making them truckloads of cash, knowing the way corporations work and engage in groupthink, I doubt this is the accepted wisdom in the halls of the Yoob.

If you decide to engage in false flagging yourself (1) you lose any ethical high ground you might have and injure your own credibility, possibly beyond repair; (2) you place your account, and possibly your assets, at risk should the case go beyond YouTube admin and enter a courtroom. I wouldn't recommend it, but I can't do anything to stop anyone.

I've forwarded what I know (and some of my speculations and working assumptions) on this series of incidents to my own YouTube contacts, but there's no guarantee I'll get much of a response, especially since I'm not one of the directly affected parties. And I refuse to speculate at this point whether there was or was not something actionable in the video being mirrored, though I tend to infer some greyness given the number of mirrored copies that were online last I checked. But I could easily be over-interpreting there, and assuming far too much.

My own sympathies are sufficiently biased that I have to admit I'm more than a little prejudiced in DPRJones favor, in ways that others I've spoken to are not.

Then again, Yoob staff seem to be fairly busy dealing with the 4chan porno attack today, so that could also explain the lack of action and further enlightment, at least from them.

He's beyond satire, if he's not serious then he is practically attacking creationists, now that I think of it, if I were to pretend to be a creationist in order to undermine their position, I would act almost exactly like he does. My theorie is that youtube doesn't want to concern itself with the issue, they believe the system clan "clean itself" out.
Following this logic people would from some point start to refrain from flagging campaigns, simply because they would almost immdiately get flagged, too.

By this logic we would have to start flagging as hell. But I really don't want to do or advocate this.
Youtube has to change the system. If you flag a video you must do this openly.

&How likely are users with 5000subs+ to post a video full of hatespeech and violence and little babys getting... ?
These users turn to "behave". So maybe a subs-protection system should be installed. The more subscribers the harder it should be to kick you out.

And it should be possible to de-flag a video. Maybe not immediately but a little like a vote.
if a video gets flagged the vote starts. How many votes it takes to take the video down could depend on the star-rating of the video.
1star rating: 20% voters says flag it! --> Its flagged.
5star rating: 90% of voters have to flag this video to label it "inapropriate".

The votebotting problem should get solved, though. And this can only work after 40-50 star-ratings.

I read a good suggestion on one of the comment boards. Let's start an experiment:
Let's create a dummy account, and start uploading completely innocent videos (or maybe more ironically, videos about Youtube's policy). Then, throw everything at them: false flagging, 1 star ratings, DMCA claims etc. Let's find out what it takes to get the videos removed and the account suspended. And then confront Youtube with it. Heck, if we can demonstrate that they allow censorship, why not take it to the press?
