Yes, it sounds a bit too conspiracy-y to me.

I think "the system" is so complex that it is beyond anyone's control.

There are many who benefit from the system, but usually because they are clever and ruthless enough to know how to benefit from most situations.
Sure, many new trends come from shady, corporate minds, but there are just as many (or many more, really) failed attempts at making new trends, which I think shows clearly that no one understands the system so well as to have 100% success 100% of the time.

We are all a product of our time. And our time is a product of previous times. So on and so forth.
The times are a product of previous times and the people in that time, and those people are a product of the times they live in, and previous times.

While I'd deride the video (admittedly, I didn't watch it all) for trying to find agency where I see none, I'd applaud the video (and Huxley) for making some astute observations about our time.
