That's really sad. Look at you. Actually (fnar fnar) I', EOD in the naaavy (fnar fnar)" You're actually boasting to me about how clever you are, when I couldn't give a damn whether you exist or not, how's that, sailor? I tell you what, Sherlock, here's your next assignment : See how long you can go without thinking about me. Your time starts...now. Good luck, sailor.

Gnug215 said:Trolling is essentially pissing people off.
The best of example of a proper, pure troll is someone who goes onto a Justin Bieber fan forum, insults Bieber and all his fans, just for the hell of it.
That's a "real" troll. That's intentional trolling.
However, trolling is highly context based.
Insulting Bieber on THIS forum would NOT be trolling.
Generally, a troll is someone trying to elicit a negative response from someone. It can be done in many ways.
A Poe is something different. A Poe is someone posing as someone they are not. Like, Hytegia could go undercover with a new, fake account, and take on the role of a creationist.
Now, if Hytegia the Poe would, in his role as a creationist, be making inflammatory statements, purely meant to rile us up, annoy us, bait us, trigger us by saying stuff like "evolutionists are all satan worshippers (ok, that one would maybe just make us laugh, but you get the idea), then he would be a trolling poe.
If, instead, he just made statements making creationists look really bad, like, claiming that the Grand Canyon was formed in 5 minutes or that the craters on the Moon were created by water ejaculated from Earth during the Flood, then he would be a humor Poe, like Edward Current. (Although his Poe may be considered "trollish" by Christians who know that he's a Poe, because he's making fun on them by acting like one of them.)

If further argument is required here; then consider that these folks generate much interest amongst our membership as a devils' advocate. If they are just around to insult and curse people, well, they already break the rules, and require no further attention.
But any good question asked deserves an answer, and any bad question does not. We're all smart enough to know that stuff.

It can be, yes, because some people cry wolf at the sight of a bunny.
Like so many other terms, this one has been misused, abused, watered down and misapplied so many times that it has nearly lost meaning (or at the very least, become totally contingent upon its context.)
