Sister: You shouldn't say that?

Me: What?

Sister: Jesus

Me:... why?

Sister: Because it's blasphemy. You shouldn't blaspheme

Me: I don't believe in God, therefore I'm not blaspheming

Sister:[louder] you don't believe in God. You should believe in God.

Me: Why?

Sister: Because believing in God makes you live longer

Me: No it doesn't

Sister: Yes it does.

(The above continues for about three minutes)

Me: Are you joking? You can't just make stuff up Sister, believing in God does not make you live longer.

Sister: Yes it does, look a [our great grandmother].

Me:... Our great grandmother lived a tribal lifestyle for most of her life. She didn't eat fast food, her diet was healthy, she didn't smoke, and because of her lifestyle she was very healthy. Not only that, but she never caught any serious diseases and in the later parts of her life, she was able to have access to good western medicine. That's why she lived until she was 95, not because she believed in God. And besides, even though she lived until 95 and believed in God, doesn't mean that everyone who believes in God will live until their 95.

My response would be: Even if you're somehow right and believing in God would make me live longer, I would rather live a short life in truth than a long lie.

I love when people talk about believing in God as if it were a choice. Even if believing had benefits, I can't believe in something I have no reason to believe.

It's unfortunate. She's lives away from me for most of her life and while I can understand her not liking my atheism, I can't understand her ignoring basic logical principles. I think I need to teach her how to think to be honest.

i think it would be interesting to point out that article of a christian couple that got arrested because they didn't treat their sick child.

This is why I avoid speaking to my sister.

She's an idiot.

But yeah, Lifestyle do more good than god.

My grandfather is proof of this, Atheist and still herding at 75.
