Comic-Con vs. WBC

Thought the members here would get a few laughs out of the latest WBC protest, this time against this year's San Diego Comic-Con attendees.
A few weeks ago said:
Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do! Isaiah 2:8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made: 9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not. It is time to put away the silly vanities and turn to God like you mean it. The destruction of this nation is imminent - so start calling on Batman and Superman now, see if they can pull you from the mess that you have created with all your silly idolatry.

I like the last bit.

Anyway. Unable to deal with the irony of the WBC protesting a bunch of people for idolising fictional characters, they responded:

Counter-Protest.

I'm particularly fond of the Spy with "God Hates Sentries". Or maybe Commander Shepherd endorsing the protest.

So, appropriate response? Or simply feeding the trolls? Either way, I think it's brilliant. :D

Given that Westboro Baptist Church, and the Phelps family, make all their money by provoking lawsuits, Comic-Con's response is perfection. WBC tries to bait people to attack them so they can sue. Instead, they were laughed at.

The Scam of the Decade

Fred Phelps does not believe what he is doing. This is a scam.

It's a business. They travel the country, set up websites telling you exactly when they'll be there, and using the most inflammatory statements all over the place, just to get someone to violate their rights for profit. Then they sue the military, the police force that was to protect them, and everyone that is around them for money. This is a sham, and it is a trap to get people sued. Every member of his family is an attorney. Phelps does not break the law. What he does is try to make you break the law by trying to punch your sensibilities about everything you hold dear, and then sue you and everyone municipality around him to the max.

This is a scam.

Whether he believes his posters or not is irrelevant.
He's using this as a moneymaking scheme.
Lay one finger on him, do one thing that violates him, and he will sue you, and more importantly, the city, the police department, the US Military, and any private property owner he happens to be standing on to make money off of it.

...and yet Superman, Batman et al are far better role models than anyone you'll find in the Bible. If it came to the crunch, I'd hedge my bets with the guys in capes.
