As time goes on, we get more and more theists in the chat room purely for the purpose of trolling, "debating", and parroting the same arguments over and over. When I first started chatting a few months ago I saw about one a month. Now I usually see multiples in a week. Can we register #lordebate or something of that nature where this sort of thing can be taken as part of the chat rules, so that those that don't care to engage in the same conversations over and over can avoid it, or even just so that we can keep the conversations easily separate?

Ok, I have registered #lor-debate.

My suggestion would be that the channel gets set to +m for formal debates by an op (I'll give all chat ops ops in their too).

Anyone participating is given voice so that they and onlythey can speak.

I need to work it out, but it should be fine in principle.

Ok, it's kinda setup and ready to go. The basic idea is as follows.

If two or more people wish to have a debate, witnessed by others, but limited to their own participation, then the place to do is it #lor-debate.

All chat ops from #lor have been (or will be in due course) set up as ops on that channel, possibly plus a couple of others, submit names here for consideration. The channel will be set to mode +m by an op (moderated) which will mean that the only people who can talk are those with op status.

The people actively involved in the debate will be given voice (Voice ops), which will enable them to speak. The debate can then proceed as required.

I suggest that the topic of the channel is changed to represent the debate in question at a given time so that somebody who stumbles across the channel will understand and instantly be able to follow. I will probably change the topic to reflect the fact that +m is set during debate.

At the end of the debate the +m will likely be lifted to enable group interaction, set again when another debate is to take place.

Will ops act as moderators in these debates, or at least have the opportunity to?

So is it acceptable with this new channel, if a theist comes in quoting Bible/Koran verses or announcing "I can prove god" or "all you atheists have such irrational faith" or whatever to tell them to take it there?
