Re: "Bottles of Beer On the Wall" starting with a large nume

99 bottle of beer in my fridge, 99 bottles of beer.
Take one out, pass it to me.
98 bottles of beer in my fridge.

Isn't that how it goes?

Re: "Bottles of Beer On the Wall" starting with a large nume

It occurs to me there is an even simpler solution, which scans better.
Here is an algorithm

"Let us define f(n) as
f(n) = C - n
where C is some arbitrarily large constant and
n is an element of the closed interval [0,C]
Sing to the tune of "99 bottles of beer on the wall"
the first time:

C bottles of beer on the wall, C bottles of beer...

for the first repetition sing
f(1) bottles of beer on the wall, f(1) bottles of beer..

thereafter increase n monotonically until n = C"

el oh el

I bet I could write a C program to do this. Wonder how long it would take it to print all that text? Calculating it isn't this issue, the command prompt only refreshes to fast.

Anyway, next verse!

The fastest computers could do this countdown in...
~1000 years?

Not necessarily. I don't see any problem with computers counting down from 10[sup]39[/sup] with current technology. If they can calculate several trillion digits of pi, this should be trivial, right?
