Bored With Everything

So what do you do when you become bored with pretty much everything? It's been creeping up on me the last few months and I've really just hit this wall recently. Everything just bores the shit out of me. Games, books, movies, music, forums, hanging out with friends, none of them entertain me even slightly.

It's starting to actually worry me, as I'm only fucking 27 and I'm already at the point where NOTHING excites me. This combined with overwhelming feelings of utter and complete misanthropy towards every other human being I'm forced to interact with is really beginning to have a negative effect on my life.

Honestly, never been a huge fan. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I've never understood the all encompassing desire to have sex often. Masturbation takes less time out of my day.

There are anti-boredom and misanthropy drugs?

This isn't depression.
Are you sure? It sounds like depression to me. Being sort of bored and irritated for months at a stretch sounds like exactly depression.

Depression usually involves low self-esteem, low-mood and suicidal thoughts.

I'm generally in a decent mood and, if anything, I think too highly of myself. I did the depression song and dance when I was in my early 20's, this doesn't feel the same.

No, you did the angsty goofball dance before.

Depression varies from person to person, but there are some common signs and symptoms. It's important to remember that these symptoms can be part of life's normal lows. But the more symptoms you have, the stronger they are, and the longer they've lasted, the more likely it is that you're dealing with depression. When these symptoms are overwhelming and disabling, that's when it's time to seek help.

Common signs and symptoms of depression:

....Loss of interest in daily activities. No interest in former hobbies, pastimes, social activities, or sex. You've lost your ability to feel joy and pleasure.

....Irritability or restlessness. Feeling agitated, restless, or on edge. Your tolerance level is low; everything and everyone gets on your nerves.

Agreed. I'd suggest if you are unable to 'fix' your own boredom, you might be at risk of depression, even if you don't see it yet.

Actually, you are experiencing the most common depression. It is rarely diagnosed and yet involves far more people than the common "i hate life" style depression.
Basically, you are in a rut or stuck in the doldrums. Get out and do something. Spend a week outside of routine. Go mountain climbing and leave the I-pod at home. Spend time with you and only you... and see if you like the company.

I'm in the same spot, and it sucks, so don't think I'm preaching. But seriously go hiking or climbing and leave the world behind for a few days. Entertain yourself, I think you'll be surprised at the results.

Also, I should note that I'm not a doctor, so you should see a doctor rather than rely on anything people post online.

And after you do that, take this advice. ;)

I used to have a therapist and a drug routine and the whole nine yards after my first, and really only serious, anxiety attack. I'd need to find something other than medication to fix this, as that shit just doesn't work.

Antidepressant medication basically puts you at -5 all the time. You never hit -15, but you also never hit +5. You're basically miserable, just slightly miserable, all the time when on antidepressants and I promised myself never again on that shit. I had more suicidal thoughts on medication than I did without it.

I know exactly what you mean. It's a hellish process, but I think that learning how to cope and get past it is a far more valuable lesson in the long run. Having to rely on drugs and other people can make you feel a loss of control over your own life. And different things work for different people. There is no universal "cure," so only you will know in the end how to fix it.
