I have given blood several times (even recently).
It doesn't hurt anyone, you will still feel fine after it. If you are an healty person you should do it, who knows, maybe your blood could save a life (or even your own life).

Perhaps next time i will make a video about it.

I really admire people who make blood donations.

I keep trying to get up the courage to go, but the thought of the needle just freaks me out.

I can't remember how many times I've been stuck, so many needles...

Sticking a needle in the arm isn't painfull at all, you would be surprised that the arm isn't quite sensitive in some places and all that you feel is a pinch at best.
I admit that it fells weird having a needle stuck there during the procedure, but it is not unconfortable. The best part is that they give you free muffins afterwards :D .

I haven't donated blood, since I'm not legal age yet, but at one time in my life I had to do hell lot of blood test, so I know how it feels like. The needle seriously doesn't hurt(or maybe it's because I got used to it). So I'm planning to give blood donations some time in my life, if my health allows that...

i'm not old enough but my dad has done it about 50-something times in his life which inspires me to do it as much as i can. also, i'm hoping they start paying for sperm in england again cuz that would be cool, i'd sit at home all day with a thermos flask.

I would, but I'm scare shitless of needles. I'm slowly getting over it though. I finally got the courage to get my ears pierced last summer.

I'm not allowed. My Great-Grandmother died of CJD and as a result they won't let me donate.

I give whenever it is convenient. If I see a Bloodmobile and a short line, I jump in it. When I've worked at places that sponsored blood drives, I've given. I've probably given blood 40-50 times over the years.

I'm 18, and so far I've donated 7 times. I plan to be a regular donor, always.

It's not painful, I know there are some sensitive people out there but really. I would describe the pain as maybe a "discomfort", nothing more. It's easy. Yeah yeah needles look scary but once you get past that, it's a cakewalk.

There is always a short supply, and it's obviously really important. I hugely respect blood donors, it's a very honourable thing to do, IMO. Just think how many lives a regular blood donor saves.

My father is a beast, he's donated over 120 times! They took a picture of him and hung it up on the wall at the blood donor clinic for being so awesome.

Also, according to statistics, people who donate blood regularly live longer, so it's good for your health too.
EDIT: My bad, correlation does not necessarily mean causation ;)

So many lives depend on it. If you can, then it's the right thing to do. Save some lives, donate your blood. :)

Been a donor since I was 18 and have given about 55 times now. My parents are both donors and my grandmother was as well, but they reason I started was to piss of a JW I worked with.

hehe, you may have fallen into the false correlation trap there. maybe it's not the bloodletting that is healthy, maybe they don't let the very unhealthy people donate (and they don't) thus increasing the average health and therefore life-span of donors.
i agree though, that everyone should donate. it's not hard and it saves lives, there's really no argument not to.
off the topic slightly- do you think post-mortem organ donation should be default and you have to get a card to NOT donate or should we keep the system of needing to get a card just to donate? personally, i think it's ridiculous that we don't have the former system- so many lives could be saved.

anybody knows for how long can blood be kept? almost forever?

well i have never done that, i have to admit, but i would like to. and by the way i don't think they want any, during the war with Russia in august they got more than enough in the blood bank, lots of people donated blood back then. as for me, i wasn't home when it all started.

A quick wikipedia entry tells me:

- Blood plates have a shelf-life of under a week
- Red blood cells can be kept for a little over a month under the right conditions (refrigiated)
- Blood plasma can be kept in a frozen state for about a year

And as for myself, I am 17 and have never donated blood. I have actually never thought about it before to be honest, but I have to say... Why not? Blood donation is a fantastic idea and a great way to really help someone. When I turn 18 I will definitly try to donate blood. Thank you for inspiring me to do good! :)

I think you should be a doner by default, only if you want to Jew out your organs (as EricCartman from Southpark would say) then you should declare to the autorities that you are a selfish prick.
As for me I won't need my organs after I die, so I'm not to annal to keep them.
