Biology Textbooks

I recently bought the required textbooks for studying Biology at Uni next year and found that a couple of them state 'not for sale in the USA or Canada' on the back. Luckily I live in the UK.

Can someone explain to me why these books are restricted in those countries?

The books in question are Brock - 'Biology of Microorganisms' and Berg - 'Biochemistry'.

Did you ask the place where you bought it?

Bought it off Amazon, no clues there.

I see. Well, I don't have any answers at the moment. I'm sure some of the forum members may have an idea.

International textbooks are cheaper than U.S. editions of the same book. Basically the publishing companies were gouging North American students. Apparently the U.S. Supreme Court said that it's no longer illegal to purchase international books.

Here's an article in the New York Times about it: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE3DC1E3EF932A15753C1A9659C8B63

Ahh, so it's just an issue of getting more money out of American students? Lame.

Its a conspiracy that information outside the US is far more detailed and quantative, and they want us to remain as sheeple (sheople?). The article provided is a cover up, and any texts entering the US are stripped of essential knowlege and replaced by pretty, high quality and high color pictures, so the page count remains the same and we are none the wiser. Except, of course, those like me who are far too inteligent to fall for this utterly ridiculous cover up.
