I havent made a topic, So I felt in making one randomly
The Bible is interpreted by some Christians as literal, Although the community which does so is shunned by the main Christian groups. Lets me pick on out that does the literal interpretation hmm, 6th(or 7th) day adventists. I have one living in the house im currently living in atm.
She thinks that the earth is flat, 6000 years is how old the world is in general. She believes in killing adulterers, the justifcation of the rapes that were done by Moses' orders. etc etc, She is true to her beliefs and every night she sings about 30 hymns before going to bed.
the thing is, I can forgive her and not condemn her because she is quite old. She is uneducated, she never attended school. She was born in Africa and somehow managed to end up here.
My problem is mainly with the educated adventists who believe in all of this and the commands written in it BUT add a excuse at the end of it.
e.g "Yeah, The punishment for X was death, BUT jesus makes it all better. I don't believe in the old testament, I believe in the new testament)
Recently, I've had the pleasure of meeting some girls my age believe in the bible and not knowing what the first book in it is called. They go to church etc.
I find passive indoctrination fascinating, but recently I've come to the conclusion that religion to most is nothing but a huge social event.
Your thoughts?
