Living here in the bible belt you See all type of Christian zealots. Ranging from the Anti Homsexual and Abortion, the Apocalypse type, and the rolling in the pew speaking in tongues holiness and Pentecostal types, also Southern Baptist. They Surround me. Just yesterday while using the only wifi hotspot Café in town, there was a store front Church holding services not twenty feet away from me, I managed to tell one of the Church members while I was inside the Café that his so Called God of love was nothing but a genocidal maniac, and why do Christians bother opposing Abortion, I told him if he bothered reading the old testament YHWE commanded his followers to cut open pregnant women and kill children, I think it pissed him off, and got me more of a sadist reputation as a lustful God hating , Satanist, or whatever among the Church people in town, the jury is out. All I know is while applyng for eork as a waiter at the restraint, I was told they cant help me, they hire women, I guess they don't want gays, it looks too gay among their patrons to have male waiters, or just I am atheist and gay and word is out, oh well, at least the place is free wifi and occasional free coffee or a big cup for $1.05 with unlimited refills, you can't smoke inside, but all restraunts in my state will be that way as of July 1st 2012, but Bars and a lot other places will be excempt from the smoking ban, so I can patronize and blaspheme else were, and most places will give the state of Indiana the finger in my town in when it comes to the ban on smoking, but that is another subject.

so far as the smoking bans, it may comfort you to know by the sounds of it you in the some the states there are lagging behind the rest of the western world. come to europe and you will find it very difficult to find any exceptions aside from member cigar clubs. Even china is headed the same way.
indiana is on the very tip of what might be termed the bible belt, it could be worse aye.
If there isnt an atheist group in your near local, then how about starting one?
Fortunately here in the uk i have no need to be part of such a group, but if i were in your location, it be the first thing on my list of to dos
over here we have the humanist groups, but precious little else. In many ways you are way better served over there than we are here.

you have to be one of the bravest amoung us.

i suspect those christians will most likely have a bible on them. just let them search up the psalm without mentioning the content and ask their opinion. if you want to play it gently, you can say it came up during a discussion with atheists.
this will lower their defense, which will make them less hostile. you can play the ignorance card if it gets a bit too hot.

That's paramount to remarking to a child that Santa is not only fake, but his parents had been lying to him for years - and then becoming surprised when he starts crying and throwing a fit.

I grew up in the Bible Belt too - but I was raised with this thing called decency.

If you're going to be a jerk then don't be amazed when people find you annoying.

Setting up individuals to 'appear' a certain way is not decent behavior......... Just sayin......

Around the good christians that are decent people, i go out of my way not to use blasphemic words, on the other hands while around the homophomic biggoted christians ( me being gay), the type that would ban abortion under all cercumstances, and other christians who use the name the of Christ for a radical or crazy type cult that even Jesus would of puked opun walking into the services of the churches or hearing the hateful clergy, they can smell my nicotine stained clothes, breath in my smoke, smell alcholhol and coffee on my breath, and hear me blasphmeme, they show me no respect and my life style is just as repulsive to them as theirs is to me, so they can call me vulgaritys for bieng gay and living the seven deadly sins, and blaspheming organized religion, and that give me the right to return it in full payment. :twisted: I used to play the victum, those days are over, i speake my mind to those that think their god wants them to set me aside or disriminate. I have bigger balls than any hillbilly holy roller and know my bible, so i know how deeply mently disturbed YHWE is, and even jesus invented the idea of burning people for not believing, god in the ot just had fun killing the men, boys and pregnant women of the unbelievers, and taking off the pretty women as cocubines, now who says moses was moral. THAT DEITY WAS A GENOCIDAL MANIAC.

Another thing, that last rant was not directed towards you, so please dont take it that way. I have been reading your posts for a long while, and admire your personality. I just tell people how it is when it comes to religion anymore, no more kicking the ball around the court.
