Baited Hooks and Misanthropy

So the question is two fold.....

Does anyone know of a decent book or research avenue that discusses the potential correlation between baited hooks and misanthropy.

Can a person still have empathy for humanity and still be classified as a misanthrope?

What do you mean by baited hooks? I'm unfamiliar

I'd easily classify myself as a misanthrope that still has (perhaps I should use 'plagued by') empathy, but I don't know if this is exactly what you're asking about

Baited hooks are repeated situations that one sees (usually setup by other individuals) in order to provoke a response from a person that it is directed towards. These baited hooks are typically setup for either positive or negative gain....... Depending on the circumstance. Continuously putting individuals into these states (multiple people) conspiring to get a certain response will often lead the person that this is directed toward to have a less than favorable reaction toward the trust of human beings. This is the type of information or research area that I was looking to discover or be corrected on...... If that is the case.

Empathy is simply having the ability to recognize the emotional states of another human being and is often needed to........ "I would not want a human being doing a certain act to me therefore I will not partake or do that to another human being" type of mentality. One could have this capability (empathy) and still distrust other humans because he/she notices that others do not play by the same rules in the proverbial sandbox.
