For me Avatar was bittersweet. I was working on a webcomic very similar to Avatar (that I dreampt up a long time before Avatar) but now I had to put it on hold lest it be declared a ripoff.

The movie itself was pretty awesome and in fact I was ok with the weak plot. It just meant it wouldn't distract me from enjoying the visuals.

This movie was crappy. if you take the eye candy away it has a completely predictable story line that's been done before in countless films. oh be good to mother nature don't be mean to indiginous peoples wow what a revelation. screw the acting how about a sci fi movie that's not just endless scenes of people running flying running flying and running some more. oh and i loved how we all we're just plunked into this world without so much as a feeble explanation as to where it is how they got there for god sakes i couldn't care less about the characters by the end of it just shitty. terminator now that was a good james cameron movies. get over the effects and this movie has nothing new to offer

First thing's first, go look up the original treatment called "Project 880" before you completely judge the movie, I'm sure a good deal of the dumbing down was a result of executive meddling. Hell, warner bros made them change humans from being used as extra neural processing cores for the machines into batteries that defy the laws of thermodynamics--because they thought the audience would be too stupid to get the actual concept.

I also believe that a movie with such revolutionary tech needs to have a predictable plot, otherwise there wouldn't be anything familiar for the audience to grab onto.

oh i never realised the movie was stupid for my benefit and you gotta love the movie that you need to research first to make it good.
