Any older games you loved

I really enjoyed Majora's Mask. It seemed a lot darker than Ocarina of Time, I never got round to completing it though unfortunately.

Excellent game. For me, it has stood out more than any other game in the series after OoT, simply due to how different it dared to be. I was just testing out a repaired N64 with it last night....

I remember the first time I saw that 3 days thingy at the bottom of the screen, and I was like 'Wtf??! How am I ever going to complete this game in that time, its going too fast!" then you learnt the song of time and I was like 'ahhh this is pretty fucking cool'.

I found the mask salesman guy really creepy - I love how they animated him, in a really weird jerky manner.

His animations were pretty funny and creepy at the same time. Whenever he expressed emotion, he went "all in". If he was angry, he'd strangle you. If he was needy, he'd bow to you endlessly. In a way, he was kinda of a "mad hatter" type of character. Which makes sense when you consider how much this game parallels Alice in Wonderland in the beginning. You could say he's the "Mad masker".

Speaking of masks, I loved collecting every single one. They were worth it.

Fierce Deity's mask was the shit. Too bad you could only use it in boss rooms. I actually got close to completing the game 100%, but that last bottle was a pain, I put it on hold, and now my friend is borrowing it. And I have the special edition gold cartridge with holographic picture

A good friend of mine just gave me a box of PS1 and Super Nintendo games. Here is the list to make you jealous:

FFVII
The Legend of Dragoon
Xenogears
Suikoden
Star Ocean

Frogger
Earthbound
Super Mario All Stars
Math Blaster (had this on the PC years ago)
Zelda: ALttP
Stunt Race FX
Breath of Fire
FFII
FFIII
Kirby's Dreamland 3
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Donkey Kong Country
Tournament Fighters
Secret of Evermore
Super Mario World

That is all, and as soon as I get a PS1 memory card and a super nintendo power cord I shall be enjoying myself very well. Thank you.

Earthbound

Your friend just handed you at least $120 in the cart alone right there. If he gave you the box and manual along with it....that's some friend!

I'm currently selling a loose cart of that game myself.

BTW, here's a list of my my entire collection that I just started. There's a few stragglers I'm missing, I'm sure.
Just click on the image:

Yes, that is going to be the first game I start playing :D . Loose cartridge, but it was the only one in the box with the little protector on it if that's an indicator that he knows its value. A couple of the other games are also on the collectors item list, but I just tried to play Suidoken and it does not work  Dont think its worth the $50 anymore after that revelation. I wouldnt sell them anyway, if they are fun.

And I like your PS2 backlog, I am currently working on a 100% completion file for Ratchet and Clank UYA myself (god damned comic skill points)

That's on the PS1, right? you might try a used game store to buff it out a little. If it's not too badly scratched you'll most likely only need to do one step in the buffing process. Some people hate buffing out games, but that's because they don't pay attention and the idiot clerk does all 3 steps and ends up turning the disk to mush.

Thanks! It really has grown which is ironic in the sense that I used to be a complete hater of all things PlayStation. I was in the N64 camp after the Saturn failed, and later the PS2 killed my beloved Dreamcast. Then, when GT4 was released, I gave into the dark side and bought one...begrudgingly. Finally, SotC opened my eyes to what I missed in the wonderful world of PlayStation....though the Dreamcast is still a sore spot. That system had a ton of potential going. :ugeek:

Anyway, coincidentally, I was going to move on to UYA myself. I tried going back to the original R&C, but the controls are far too outdated for me. After I played the PS3 versions, I had to go back and play the whole series...well, most of it.

$120 for Earthbound? Not bad...

I still play it though

My SNES collection...

Super Metroid
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Breath of Fire II
Robotrek
Brain Lords

Of all, I play Super Metroid the most. About once a month or so I get an urge to go rape Mother Brain.

And, over 15 years after its release, Ridley is STILL difficult. The rest are easy as. Aside: my love for this game made Other M a joygasm

Secret of Mana

I'm currently playing that on an emulator. Very fun so far, but I think I'm going to try it on the BSNES emulator for more accuracy to the real hardware. :ugeek:

On Metroid, my feeling is that games in the series like Super Metroid are what elevated that series to godly status. With that said, it deserved a lot better than Other M. Just my 2 cents.

arg-fallbackName="Lallapalalable"/>
Yes, the first ratchet and clank is very, um, chunky with the controls, especially after playing the second and third. Also, the lack of weapon leveling just kind of makes it obsolete. The graphics werent too bad, though, for its time, and the story is similar in quality and humor.

And yes, SotC is a very well done game, and is almost perfect. I occasionally missed fighting hordes of lesser enemies, and a deeper story line, but the minimalism allows you to fill the gaps.

SoM is amazing. Sequal to it is Seiken Densetsu 3 - there's a translated rom floating around. As I recall it just never got translated to US, or it was scrapped before being produced (Terranigma is another good one in the latter category). The prequal is one of the GB Final Fantasy games...Legends? Adventure? not sure which off the top of my head.

Anyway!

Metroid is amazing. I thought the series deserved better than the Prime games and Hunters. Other M was an excellent 3D evolution of the sidescroller. I was rather annoyed by the jarring perspective shift, which ruined the game for me, but the storyline was spot on. It drew from the old comics, the Nintendo Power stuff.

I still masturbate furiously to the opening scene of Mother Brain nuking the Baby Metroid

arg-fallbackName="televator"/>
Holly cow, Zero... I cannot disagree more with any of the Metroid comments. The prime series was spectacular. Some of the best boss fights I've ever had in a 3D video game. Omega pirate, all the iterations of Metroid Prime, Meta Ridley.... sheer epicness. Plus, so many elements about the original games was preserved despite the first person perspective. It maintained the sense of isolation, deep exploration, and the strong stoic Samus character. I don't know if you've played them but I highly suggest you give them a shot if you haven't....and If you REALLY like Mother brain that much....there's a bit of a surprise in Prime 3... ;)

arg-fallbackName="DepricatedZero"/>
I played the first two prime games, and don't get me wrong they were good and I enjoyed them - there isn't a bad game in the series save Hunters. I felt like FPS was just the wrong direction for it though. Like Mega Man Legends - which was good on its own, but was not the cool sidescrolling shoot-em-up that the other 500 mega man games are known for.

So spoiler me, what's in 3 that has to do with Mother Brain?

arg-fallbackName="televator"/>
I think perspective has little to do with how well a game stands up to it's predecessors. It had all the other element properly integrated in a First person experience. It even had music composed by the same guy who did all the games before. Proper Metroid games through an through.

Anyway, here's the spoiler:

I couldn't shake the feeling that I was playing a cross between Metroid and Half-Life. I like Metroid, and I like Half-Life, but they have drastically different feels. Also, some of the best fun of the early Metroid games was sequence breaking. In Super Metroid, for instance, I can run through the bosses in any order with the exception of Ridley who must be 3rd or 4th kill(need varia and gravity suit to ignore lava long enough to get to him). I played through the first two games a couple times but could never find a way to break sequence.

That said, I do love the way they justify the gear reset. I liked the way they did it in Other M too, where she had everything but was restricted by orders.
Anyway, here's the spoiler:
That is beautiful, brought a tear to my eye. The Prime games are sequentially predecessors to the original, too, right?
