Another win for religion....

The man, Dale Neumann, told a court in the state of Wisconsin he believed God could heal his daughter.

She died of a treatable disease - undiagnosed diabetes - at home in rural Wisconsin in March last year, as people surrounded her and prayed.

To keep reading.

I put money on the fact that he still believes in his magic sky fairy and her death was for a reason. Ignorant moron whose stupidity has let someone, with a treatable condition, die for no reason. He deserves 25 years for it.

And theists say that faith never hurt anybody. Well, there's a dead 12 year old girl who is only dead because their parents believed the fucking tooth fairy would save her life.
It's shit like this that really pisses me off. Ask me why I'm a militant atheist? This is why.

Sorry for the rant, but WOW, how stupid do you have to be? How fucking brain dead are these fucking people? How many children would still be alive today if not for religion?

I'm not sure what to think about this, girl doesn't deserve to be dead, but the guy deserves to have a dead daughter, it's what happens when you take imaginary freinds over science. I hope people learn from this retards mistakes.

It's so sad. What horror religion bestows upon civilisation - this wasteful, wasting disease called 'faith' that erodes men's minds and offers, for all its harms, only the death of one's beloved child wrapped in a soft blanket of lies and perpetual ignorance. I wonder if that blanket, now soaked in the poor girl's blood, still feels warm to him?

Unf'ing believable.

Wait, it was idiot fundamentalism getting in the way of logic. Completely believable.

This dumbarse should be locked up.

You'll notice that this jackass hired lawyers to help him, instead of trusting in "God" to keep him out of jail... what a worthless hypocrite.

Exactly what I thought. Isn't the truth supposed to prevail? Or does he not trust the lord?

Trust is good for other people's problems. For HIS problems, he wants expert help.

This reminds me of that Minnesota kid who has Hodgkins Lynphoma, but his parents didn't want him to get chemo because their crazy new-age religion said it was not sacred to pump poison into the boy who was a "medicine man".

Hah! Excellent point there.

Speaking of excellent points, I had another couple of thoughts:

You know what you never hear about? Christian fundamentalist men dying of infections and diseases because of refusal of medical care. You hear about lots of children, and the occasional wife of one of these guys, but these guys never get really sick? They never get bronchitis that turns into pneumonia because they won't take an antibiotic? They never get tetanus, or cut themselves and get an infection? Ever? No appendicitis, no tonsillitis, no nothing that could potentially kill you if untreated?

Or do they go get treatment for THOSE things? It is only the children and occasional wife, the ones who don't have power in the fundamentalist family structure, who are forced to suffer through illness and die for "faith."

While we're on the subject, do fundie Christians get braces? How about having their wisdom teeth pulled, tonsils taken out, or broken arms and legs put in casts? It seems that the only thing they DON'T treat is shit that kills their kids. That's what I want to ask these faith healing idiots: still have your wisdom teeth, no filling, and no other elective or minor surgery or dental treatment?

arg-fallbackName="Sarge084"/>
The reason you don't hear of too many fundies dying for their belief is because it isn't newsworthy, a child's death is. There must be JW's dying daily, for the want of a blood transfusion, and anyone refusing treatment has the right to do so, but deliberately preventing the treatment of someone else, especially a child, could be considered to be manslaughter at the very least.

For any major treatment and/or surgery to go ahead you have to sign a consent form, and I'm willing to bet that dozens go unsigned every day, thats freedom of choice, but what this arsehole Neumann did was to deny the girl that freedom to choose. His sole defence appears to be that he didn't know she was that ill, but any reasonable person wouldn't take the chance, they would have called in a doctor as soon as signs of illness manifested themselves.

I hope he rots in jail, and has his arse reamed by some big burly convict.

Joe, I don't see any point in letting someone die. It just makes their religion look bad, them look stupid and it takes away a loved one. I don't believe the majority of fundamentalists are malicious (although a handful undoubtedly are) - they're just stupid.

No one is suggesting malice, but you can't go on letting stupidly deluded people go on allowing others to die, simply because you believe that your brand of sky daddy will come to their aid.

If the welfare service saw parents who couldn't clean or feed a child properly they would take that child into care for it's own well being, so why should they allow stupid Christians to get away with neglect? Of course not all Christians are that stupid, just like not all parents are too stupid to care for a child, but religion is no excuse for stupidity in otherwise sane and caring people.

The dead kid's father saw a point in letting someone die. That's the only thing that matters.

I submit that calling believers stupid is not entirely accurate. While many folks you engage in debate seem to be educationally deficient, it is the tenets of their beliefs that mortally affected this child. Christians are asked to depend on their creator, to lay their deepest and earnest desires at his feet in prayer. If it "His" will, the thoughts you lay to god in prayer will happen, if it isn't then it wasn't meant to be. The longer you believe, which for my wife and I was our entire adult life, the stronger your perceived relationship with god. Thus, this sort of thing happening should not be a surprise, when viewing the sinister nature of a relationship with the divine fostered by Christian beliefs.

Furthermore, Christianity extols the virtues of believing without evidence (blessed are those who believe, but have not seen...). It is therefore a badge of honor to hope for a miracle or for god to answer your prayers in a non-miraculous way and to not take supplemental action as doing so, in this case seeing a doctor, would indiciate a lack of faith.

Its just so fucking insidious.
