Hi!
I am a newbie on these forums but I just wanna know why atheists are so easily pissed off. I am a Atheist and I am able to keep to upbeat desposition, thanks to a good friend. So, why do you guys have to be so offensive and sometimes outright rude, it is no wonder we have such a bad reputation.

lol I think you're making a massively unfounded and sweeping statement by saying that atheists are all quick to anger.

Yes indeed I've seen many atheists go off on one but usually this is because it's the billionth time they've had to explain or correct an idiotic mistake made by a stubborn theist, or they are passionate about tackling the negative influences of religion on society.

I'm pretty sure there are as many, if not more, theists who would be just as quick to anger, however their reasons are much less founded.

EDIT: As to why 'we' have a bad reputation, we're daring to think outside of the box and then throw the box on the fire, of course we're going to piss people off.

How certain are you that your perception isn't biased towards seeing anger in atheists?

I like to think that we think inside the box - thats the infinitely big box with reality on the inside...

Agreed, what I should said is that we broke out of their box, or perhaps their wet paper bag.

LOL... About as solid as their arguments...

Yeah I did kinda generalize there, sorry. But I have still met some less then pleasent characters who labeled themselves Atheists, that have responded to me on youtube... obviously some people are just jackasses.

Yeah, I have met a theist dude... and it was by far the most pointless 20 minutes of my life... Besides the message he sent me making absolutely no grammartical sense, he had posted in caps through-out his whole reply and had used a ridiculous amout exclamation marks after a number of sentences.
All I said to provoke his furious babbling was that atheists were not rude know-it-alls, in the context I am currently using.

I concluded he was a dushbag. XD

Lol. The person you found does seem like a real tool.

Also, the AmazingAthiest is not an incredible simulation.

I am not actually sure if "STFU and GTFO kthanks" is a insult. But I am listing it as a insult because I recognised STFU as stuff you.
If this is a insult you should know you are only validating my point, and if it isn't a insult than please explain the meaning of your previous comment.

and STFU as well. =P

STFU = "Shut the f*** up"
GTFO = "Get the f*** out"

I would hope that it was an ironic response to your statement that atheists are easily pissed off. Or perhaps DOT really is just easily pissed off. It's hard to say for sure.

If this is your response then you are only validating my point, that people who call atheists angry have no sense of humor or sarcasm.

I'm mostly off-put by fundies and religious nut-jobs by the fact that their jaw-dropping ignorance and stupidity are an afront to humanity.

arg-fallbackName="DarwinsOtherTheory"/>
I find it funny how they can call me immoral, tell me that I'm going to burn in hell forever and that I deserve it but if I tell them I don't believe in their fairy tales I'm being offensive.

arg-fallbackName="Epicion"/>
I lose my cool when I hear the garbage that spews out of creationist fundies. I don't care whether mother teresa's ghost OD'd on their bed and bright light shined as she was doing it. I'll listen, I'll nod.

But the moment they say, "god made the world in 7 days". "God made you and you should love him", "God knew these scientific facts a long time ago! look! its right there in the *insert holy book here*"

I am intolerant, when it comes to the virus of miseducation rather than lack of it. To spew that a magic man clicked his fingers and people came to exist as a form of explanation when it really doesn't explain anything, is worth fighting against. A disease that leads people to give up the only life they have to please an imaginary friend is worth fighting against.

A religion, specifically Islam that dictates a woman can't choose a husband for herself due to her having to be obedient to her parents wishes. IS fighting against.

I do get angry, when I see this virus spread and show it's marks. I do get upset, when I see the ignorance of people believing in such garbage and continue to spew when their too stupid to find the answers themselves.

And last but not least, I get furious, when I heard the illegitimate and unjustified hatred towards homosexuals, jews or *insert race here*. Such pointless hatred breeds superstition. My parents till this day believe, the "jews" are plotting against us. The "christians" write books to get muslims to leave their faith.

Faith, is a virus. It causes people to think irrationally and this is a danger. The Pope condemning the use of condoms in Africa is the aftereffect of such a disease.

If your not angry when you see these things, Then my ideals are different from yours and I don't represent all Atheists.
it is no wonder we have such a bad reputation.

Are you serious? Ok, let's go over some basic stuff. As your a newbie on these forums, I'll go over it in some detail

Creationists

Doesn't believe in Evolution
Preaches his children to only believe in the *holy book of choice*
Preaches science is evil and if contradicting their holy book, they must uphold the holy book
Allows people to kill themselves upon extreme dosage
Convinces people they are right when against all rationality they are wrong.
Provides superstition and gives targets to examplify their hate towards. E.g Jews who killed Jesus, Christians who try to convert you from your original religion etc
Preach miseducation in order to keep their numbers high in terms of faith groups. It becomes a form of indoctrination and no longer choice to believe in God for children.,
Teaches to fear a God and fear Hell (monotheistic religion) as a way to make people be moral. It's a form of moral policing if you like. People stop thinking freely and are unable to cope with reality when presented to them e.g their religious book is wrong

Atheists

Defends of truth, reason and scientific truth and able to portray it without bias
Do not believe in God or any types of gods/superstitious nonsense
Believe in Evolution and other scientific theories currently upheld strongly.
Able to think and choose freely according to what they wish to do with their life and have a "live and let live" attitude.
Teaches morality through the golden rules e.g "how would you feel if someone did this to you" among other teachings.
Tells people that this life is precious because it's the only one we're going to get. So don't waste it.

As you can see from this short list. Atheists are fundamentally completely against everything creationists stand for. I'm not surprised we have a bad reputation. We stand for everything they don't. We provide education and information they dare not utter. Not to mention we are not mentally suffering from the delusion of a magical being that somehow knows my thoughts and knows why I don't believe in him but still will send me to hell regardless.

Overall, I feel this is not an answer to your question but pointing out that It's good that we are hated. It shows that we're doing something right. If we werent doing something right, then creationists and Atheists would be best friends.

Good points.

I think that your idea of a two sided battle between religion and atheism is a massive generalization, there is a infinate amount of gray in between. Not just the two sterotypes.

However I do understand what you mean... just thought I would be a smart arse. =P

I had the fun of bunking with a Southern Baptist in Basic Training who hated my guts and even tried to start a fist fight with me :p

I'm an angry non-theist because people are trying to push their belief on others. Freakin' creationism and all that bullshit.

arg-fallbackName="Exmortis"/>
Tolerance is still a importent skill do not forsaken it because of your a non-theist. :|
