Anybody heard of this story before? Was there a follow up?

I was going to say that they were old news. They I saw the date. Nevermind :)

Ok, this is how wikipedia reports this. Apparently, the methodology to analyse the samples was flawed. The red color seems to be produced due to carotenoid pigments carried by an lichen abundant in that region; DNA may have been found, and chemical analysis points that the chemical composition is coherent with a terrestrian origin *. Besides that, I haven't located conclusive results.

Follow up? Louis and Kumar seem to have done some research more, like showing that the cells have an unusual fluorescence also present in many yellow rains that happened in Kerala (seems that Kerala has colorful wet weather). They mention a blood rain happened in Colombia as well - that most of the Spanish sources attribute either to god (add Faux News here) or to clay; apparently, the "blood" became just normal water after some minutes at rest -, but I have not clear why they do that.

Furthermore, it seems that another red rain happened in August 2007 some kilometers away (how likely is for two so similar events to happen in the same region and have nothing in common? And how likely is that two comets from outer space explode in the atmosphere roughly six years apart, but over the same location?).

That's all I've found so far, other than christian groups linking it to the egiptian plagues, and conspiranoics claiming that those events are biological weapons used by aliens. It appears to have drawn little attention from serious sources, other than Louis and Kumar. And I've spend an afternoon that I had promised to myself to be productive in researching a possible alien invasion. Dammit! :x
