Adding Video in Windows Movie Maker?

All I have right now (and all I can afford) is WMM, and for the sole reason that I either cannot or am unaware of how to add video clips, I have abandoned making videos entirely. Sure, I can illustrate my points with stills and narration, but it gets tedious when trying to convey something with stills that can easily be illustrated with a 5 second clip. Any help?

Also, right now I download videos with realplayer (whatever the newest one is, I recently redownloaded it on my laptop, and Im on my desktop right now so I cant tell you exactly which it is), so if theres a way to get clips from that to WMM, that would be tits.

Just drag and drop into WMM then drag and drop onto the video track. You can then clip out sections and add whatever effects you'd like.

Another tip is that you can hit the '+ box' to the left of the video track to split a secondary audio track. You can then decrease/mute the volume of the original video while overlaying an audio track on top of it.

thanks, but it doesnt seem to be working. Oh, its realplayer SP, btw. I tried the drag and drop, and it gave me the hourglass circle then nothing happened. I even tried to convert the file specifically to WMM, but it cancelled halfway through.

Realplayer is a bitch. I would advise that nobody use it, but hey. They don't want anyone doing anything with their codec, so it's incompatible with pretty much anything.
You add videos in WMM by 'importing'. Not sure if WMM can import realplayer, for the aforementioned reason.

I recommend using .avi files for video, then you can use proper video editing software like VirtualDub(Mod) which is also free. It's an awesome tool, look it up.
If you want to make videos that are kinda powerpoint-like but still good quality (WMM sucks balls, let's face it), I recommend Camtasia Studio (I use v6). It's not free, but pretty cool.

If you want to be really sneaky you can just record something off your screen by using VHScreenCap drivers with Adobe Flash Media Encoder (might want to set up a ustream account for that). This will let you save files as .flv, which isn't too bad for Youtube usage. The point being that you don't have to edit jack and can just do stuff on your screen like watching Youtube and adding live comment, as it were. If you want to edit that video afterwards, it gets trickier as you may have to convert it to .avi first. Maybe there's flash editors, too, I never bothered. Actually your video editing software might recognize those drivers as a cam, too... never tried.
