After a quick knee jerk "that doesn't sound like a good idea" when hearing about the new mosque in NYC I came to the conclusion that it was actually the perfect place for it. People needed to be reminded that not all, and no where near a majority of, Muslims approve of attacks against civilian targets. Having a visible place for Muslims to worship might help some people to realise that their fears are completely overblown. And when it turned out to be a cultural centre with not just a mosque but also a memorial to the victims I was even more in favour. The only thing I didn't like was when they changed the name, Cordoba would have been way better.
