A LoR-tastic Idea: IRL Event? :D

I know that it may fail to meet any idea of feasibility, but I'd imagine that the League of Reason has a large enough following to host a reasonably-successful meet-and-greet on some scale or another, during some National Event in a spacific country that we can all manage to travel to. It would posit, perhaps, an entertaining thought.
For example... Octoberfest in Germany? Or some other holiday in England?

Here's the thread:
IF we could have some kind of LoR Event such as this, where would you hold it? Why? And how would it benefit the community as a whole for choosing that particular event?

I know that I'm accumulating cash to be in Europe for Octoberfect this year, and I would love to have a cup of tea with some of you. Lol. And Germany seems like a somewhat-focal point in Europe, in case the show had listeners in the lower countries besides England.

Not to mention, Beer, of course.

I'd be all for it, anywhere in Europe is good for me.
I'd suggest it be held somewhere where
a) a lot of members already reside
and
b) a place where a member can book a conference room in his own town, possibly at a discount. That way, every person could give a talk about one particular subject of their choosing.

Meh.
I tend to think that people underestimate the benefits, and savings, of public forums. You can talk openly to the rest of the group, and anyone else can join in the discussion. Confrence Rooms tend to deter the whole "Meet-and-Greet" atmosphere that I always picture.
However, it would be appropriate for a day's gathering - the rest just enjoying the city and hanging out.

I'd be all for it. Especially if anywhere in England was the gathering place. I've a dear friend who's an American ex-pat geneticist in Oxford. An LoR meet up would be as good an excuse as any for me to get off my scrawny white ass and go visit him. (apologies for describing my own posterior; I know no one wanted to read that)

A trip to Europe isn't feasible this year, maybe next - but for those in the US we're planning a camping trip to Yellowstone this August! Check the Networking forum for more.

It would be cool to hold an event IRL. However I may most likely not be able to attend it, as air travel would burn a hole in my pocket.

It would probably have to be at least three or four months away (July/August perhaps?) sort of time to get the maximum number of people (time for planning and stuff). I'm all for a gathering in the UK, although I can't think of any festivals throughout the summer. Even later in the year, there is bonfire night on the 5th November but it being in November means the British weather will ensure it wouldn't be all that fun for people visiting the country.
Still, some kind of gathering in London during the summer would have the potential to be quite fun. London is where all the famous landmarks are if visitors wanted to have a look around (Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul's Cathedral etc).

But...
There's a hole in the world (a great black pit)
and the vermin of the world inhabit it.
It's morals are worth what a swine could spit,
and it goes by the name of "London."

I vote BBQ on a beach followed by pub somewhere. Cheap, cheerful and fun. Then again I live miles from any decent beach. Meh, party at AW's house, drunk white women for everyone.

The subject of a meet has come up a couple of times with the euro #lor people. I know some of the US lot are planning something too. There is a certain amount of interest, enough to make it worthwhile I think.

Oh and hi there forums people!

I suggest Oklahoma.

It is equally inconvenient for everyone.

Pssh.
Let's make it safe - why not Somalia? :D
Okay. I'll be the guy either wearing a full-blown pirate getup and seeking employment, or hiding nervously behind my Somali friends while suffering a bout of incontinence - as whim and mood take me.

Make sure to wear your uniform to attract the ladies ;)

But there's no place like London!
