A.I.

So I'm sitting here watching the TV show Numbers. The episode is Fist Law, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1256334/ .
The episode deals with a possible A.I. that can actually pass the Turing Test. It ultimately failed.
Amita says: "I thought this was it. The moment the world changed forever."

I must admit to having felt such disappointment in the past, when expectations are high and possibilities so world changing. Can you imagine something that literally alters the world and changes the direction of us, our planet, and our future? And do you think that it could overcome politics and actually, truly, benefit humankind? Or will it be just another weapon or tool that faces restricted application and is applied to limit freedoms and benefit only the wealthy?

When they make nuclear fusion an efficient method of producing power and start implementing it on a large scale.
I don't see how it would only benefit the wealthy as it would just go towards the power grid.

Considering that I'm in America where the wealthy own the grid and charge sometimes outrageous prices...

Could this be any more vague?

I'm sorry that my questions didn't hold your hand all the way to an answer I guess...
That was unnecessary, and TBH Case has a fair point:

Yes I can imagine "something".

Err I guess, although I could just as easily imagine "something" that doesn't.

What? The "something" I imagined, or artificial intelligence?
If I follow the words you've written literally then it's "something" I was meant to imagine. But judging from the context of your last sentence you've moved back to A.I.

I imagine you'll make some snide comment about hand-holding again, but seriously K&K, try being a little more coherent in what you write.

For those who need help:

Can you imagine a scientific breakthrough that literally alters the world and changes the direction of us, our planet, and our future?

If that isn't where you are hung up:

Can you then describe what it might be?

If that isn't what is overwhelming you:

Do you think that it could overcome politics and actually, truly, benefit humankind? If so, how? Or do you think that it would inevitably be prey to the wealthy who would then use it as a method for control and their obsessive need to concentrate all wealth and power in their own hands?

I deeply apologise for asking a question so vague that it was unanswerable. I didn't realise just how confusing posting an example and then a question requiring thought about other examples could be.

So Case was absolutely correct, this is a vaguely titled creative writing project,...an imagination piece if you will.

Oh no, no, Ken........it is us who should apologise for not being telepathic, and we are only too happy to accept the sweetmeats of your condescension, knowing that we deserve them full well.

Why is it that you desire an argument so badly that you will twist a quite simple question to get one? I think perhaps you should contemplate your signature awhile...

You are obviously not a mind reader, don't give up the day job.

FYI you happen to be talking to someone who is also a parent, I however, have learnt to avoid using a parental tone when talking to other adults.
To put that another way, I shall not be going away to consider my signature, nor shall I be doing chores, nor writing lines, nor sitting on "the naughty step".

Judging by the way you communicate on this forum, you are a very patronising person. Considering that you know the type of people who frequent LoR, and exactly how much patience they have with being patronised, or condescended to, then I would have to conclude that it is you who "desire an argument".

These examples of your patronising tone are just the ones from this thread, other threads contain many more.
If you can't speak to people without resorting to this insultingly patronising language, then perhaps you need to take a break from your kids and hang out with some adults for a while, maybe then you'll remember how adults speak to each other.

Interesting question/s. I think the biggest breakthrough for humanity would be us becoming a Type I civilization on the Kardashev scale.

I think that would help humanity as a whole greatly, but I don't think that would be enough in of itself to break the class structure of society. It may very well make the differences far more profound. It all depends on the political climate at the time of this transcendence and who are the ones ultimately responsible for bringing us there.
