I like the fact that we're on a new server but why are we using phpbb? I've got a paid vB and the blog to go with it. Let's just use that.

At the bare minimum a new skin. This one is kinda bleh. Not down on you guys, I think what your doing is great. Just some suggestions for you.

If AW changed the server, he probably had good reason for it. The chat has no lag now so I am pretty satisfied.

I think you misunderstood. We were on a free server with phpbb. Now we're on a new server (good) and still have phpbb (bad).

Hi I've moved this to the Issue & Suggestions.

In the moving threads on both forums it was mentioned that there would be a new skin. These do take a little time to do and as I don't do this as a full-time job I only get to do this in my spare time, I have however already designed the majority of it in photoshop.

I agree that phpBB is not the best forum software out there, but it was felt that at least for now that we move with something people are already familiar with. The other big deciding factor is that none of us (certainly not me) have $180 laying around to spend on vBulletin, which obviously would be ideal.

Since the license that you will have belongs to you, and the license can only be used on one site I'd be loathed to take you up on the offer, last thing we need is vBulletin breathing down our necks because we aren't running legally, unless you or someone else was willing to donate and transfer their license.

Maybe we should run a fund raiser :p

If the situation does change and we are able to get hold of vBulletin the migration should be a lot simpler now as we are actually hosting the forum, and I believe there are plenty of migration tools out there. Getting the users from the free hosted forum wasn't the easiest or quickest job and I don't want to have to do it again that's for sure :)

Yes and it was put into consideration but was decided to stay with phpBB at least for now.

Bear in mind that there is plenty of room for expanding the site over time. Now that CosmicSpork is in control of the database, migrating is not the huge pain in the ass it was to get here.

I can also say that CS's work on the upcoming site layout is something to get excited about. But I shall say no more! :)

It wouldn't be a problem to share my vB. I've got it left over from a site that I scrapped. I do web development as a part time job and I've got a steady income from another site, at the moment, so this vB is just going to waste. I can't think of a better use than charity.

I have some vintage stamps, banknotes, coins, and amber with bugs in it I could donate to be auctioned off to the members here.
