As an anti-theist, this makes me happy.

I'm aware that China isn't the best state, but what the hell, still better than North Korea.

The Japan-story bothers me a bit. Yes, it's completely wrong that people abduct religious nutjobs and force them to de-convert, that is never OK in any circumstance. That being said, I could only find a handful of cases (and I do mean 5 cases) where this has happened. I can't find any statistics, any numbers, only five case reports. This is wrong, but it's not a big issue.

I'm extremely happy about Saudi-Arabia, especially with regards to the interrment and punishment of Raif Badawi. Those 5% are literally putting their lives on the line to rid us of poisonous religion.

Something I've been saying for a long time:
WIN/Gallup notes that religiosity is highest among the poor and, to a lesser extent, among the less educated, which certainly correlates among the most religious countries.

The correlation is not clear and I for one would not point out that correlation. Is it a direct one? In which direction does the correlation go? Don't use this correlation, it isn't indicative of anything.

A far more interesting correlation seems to be that of "welfare spending" vs "church attendance".

However, the poll is 3 years old, nothing new. I think those numbers have risen even further since then.

Maybe a good idea would be the cessation of building Mega-Churches and build some hospitals instead.

Disband the Vatican and distribute the wealth the people who actually need it. Don't just send money but use it to create businesses and jobs in poor countries.

How about not spending millions of dollars on ridiculous theme parks, museums, and fairy tale boats intended to mis-inform our children.

Stop trying to impede scientific progress that saves lives. Stem Cell research comes to mind.

Stop trying to inhibit the rights of everyone. Racial equality, gender equality, gay rights and so on.

Stop protecting clergy that bugger our kids.

It really makes me irk whenever I hear the "As a Christian..." What I hear is "As an Asshole..."
When you say "As a Christian..." guess what, you have to carry the bad shit as well, so maybe a more accurate qualifier (if it applied) would be "As someone who genuinely cares on my own behalf...". I would listen a little more earnestly.

Don't get me wrong, there are god Christians, Muslims, Mormons, etc out there. That is only a testament to the fact the majority of people are good and wish well for others. When you throw in the storybooks, myths and fables of the past, that's where the problems start. With the invention of the Internet and the ability for the world to communicate and learn from each other, the ideas start to mingle and the bullshit fades a little more every day. Non believers will continue to grow cost free. The religious fronts will invest and waste countless dollars to 'spread'. Rational freethought is priceless. They know they can't buy it, so religious leaders corrupt the youth before they are able to think for themselves and teach that cycle to be repeated. Which 'worldview' appears to need saving now?

As a Christian, how about you stop concerning yourself with the after life and focus on the people who are still alive. It's people who are doing things for the world as a whole with Environmental Protection, Human Rights movements, Medical research that include everyone regardless of wealth, race or belief system that matter.

I'm just thankful that we've progressed to where religion can't hide behind tradition, ignorance, and dogma. Anything anyone wants to know is literally at your finger tips 24/7/365. It's not a matter of if religion becomes largely irrelevant but when. I don't think we will live long enough to see it but our grand children's grand children might. I count myself lucky to live in the age that I do. I think there are a handful of breakthroughs in our knowledge that will answer the god question for all but the fringe that simply refuse to accept reality. I just hope I live long enough to see us achieve a few more of them. I have particular interest in our exploration of our own solar system and the research being done at places like CERN. I think it at least likely if not probable that we will find life close by somewhere in our own lifetimes.
