Seems like the whole world is pretty much screwed now. From what I have heard the 70's were much better. Not only in the US but all over Europe as well. Everything was chill, good music and cool people. My vote is for the 70's

Racism, homophobia and transphobia still seem to be getting better as time progresses, so times are probably still getting better and better.
But these are obvious factors, which we might ignore to make the question a bit easier.

Also: no internet, and computers were pretty crappy too. And smartphones nowhere near in sight.

Ahhhh, the good old golden age of yore. That never existed. As bad as things seem right, I wouldn't trade now for some era in the past.

Were homophobia and transphobia ever really a thing in Europe in the last 50 years? Kinda hard for me to believe from I have seen.

You don't read a lot of 9gag comments for example, do you? There are plenty of Europeans on there, and yet the comments always gleefully joke about trans people killing themselves, and calling them mentally ill. And homophobia: remember Russia?
Some more examples:

(Interesting you didn't mention the USA. Guess you agree they still have a long way to go?)

So I guess you are saying its been a big problem in Europe and it's all terrible? It could be that the few places I am most familiar with are more "gay friendly" than others. I dont know.

I only remember seeing or meeting like 3 gay people in my entire life in the US (outside of my family), so I would have no idea.

I will say that I think most Americans would probably have any easier time getting along with gay Europeans than with straight Europeans, in many circumstances.

No need to exaggerate it in the opposite direction. It's quite advanced. But homophobia and transphobia are "a thing".

I would definitely vote for the 70s because people seem to be happier and the curve/ratio between productivity relative to pay seems to be the best. Also low violent crime rates. Fears of life were few and people seem to be better satisfied with their lives judging from the reaction of people that lived through them.

Contrast with today and few people smile in public. Everything is expensive. The violent crime rates depending on where you check have tripled. People seem to be less and less satisfied. Less pay relative to productivity. Everyone is in a hurry and everyone thinks the other is just another obstacle on the road.
