What do you do with a PS3 console that cannot play PS3 games

My PS3 isn't playing games.

The timer starts in the top right hand corner when you put the disk in but a few seconds later a distinct beep which is similar if not identical to the sound the machine makes when the disc is inserted emanates from the disc slot. An aside, I managed to get the console onlineand have been spending a considerable amount of time testing each of my games out however, this was a few days before this problem started .

Sounds like you might be describing the Yellow Light of Death. Does it end with a blinking red light?

If it's new you might call Sony...

No. The system keeps operating. It just stops loading the game. That is what the clock at the top right hand corner represents, right. The loading process.

Potentially the disc drive has died? Just a guess... does it sound like it's having trouble reading the disc? Mine has started having more trouble reading discs lately which is a bit worrying...

Well, I spent a considerable amount of money on this machine ergo I would like to maintain it for as long as possible. Which means burning it to cinders... however attractive that prospect may be... is out of the question.

An interesting aside... My PS2 lasted for like 7 years yet my PS3 only lasted a year and a half... are all consoles getting less reliable or is it just Playstation?

I wouldn't know... Before my PS3 I had a Playstation 2 (which had no problems at all) and that was it.

It appears to be something to do with the Blueray technology being messed up

I have a plan, but it will require:

1) miniature viking longboat
10) grams aluminum powder
10) grams iron oxide powder
1) magnesium detonator
1) fuse
1) body of water
1) A swift breeze
and a handful of Norsemen

Tell me your plan O'wise one.

It has to be better then what I was going to do. (I.E. HIT IT WITH A SHOVEL)

Well, my plan was for a viking funeral, but seeing as you seem to have some animosity towards this object, it is perhaps best not to send it off with honors.

hmm... trebuchet?

Re: What do you do with a PS3 console that cannot play PS3 g

Hang on to it, and buy another console (ps3, xbox, what have you). Physically abuse the ps3 (henceforth called "the heretic"). When you first plug in the new console, show it the heretic, and promise a similar fate should the new console fail. Any time the new console misbehaves, further abuse the heretic in its presence (go for some irreversible damage, not just scratching the casing). Hell, for effect, have it plugged in while you do it, so its "awake" for the beatings. This is sure to keep the new guy in check for some years at least.
