I wonder if Tree would consider Trump to be a North Korean stooge at this point...

Well, when the government cheese stopped flowing, the Donald reached his lowest approval ratings, so it is possible.

Indeed. I believe Tree most probably abandoned his support for Trump however seeing his perfomance here makes me wonder if it's possible that he somehow doubled-down on his support for Trump by making the same kind of mental gymnastic as he did when he was making excuses for the US nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The same way they explained it away when Trump told the world that he believed Putin - a purportedly hostile foreign actor who had tampered with a democratic election - over his own intelligence agency.

CIA says Russia is to blame, what's your response?
Trump said:
I don't see any reason why it would be (Russia). President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today.

Just as they explained away his Tweet before that summit:
Trump said:
Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!

Apposite to know that the Russian foreign ministry liked the Tweet and replied 'we agree'.

Whether or not Trump is personally involved in treason is almost beside the point when he's repeatedly undermining the US, its institutions, and democratic principles to cosy up with repressive dictators.

I had seen those before in some channels i follow on youtube but thanks for the link anyway. I found it astonishing how Trump and Kim went from dick measuring to pretty much being best buddies.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Tree is somewhere on youtube making excuses for it though.

What's crazy to me is how frequently he's been obnoxious, aggressive and rude to the USA's real allies and friends, while being sycophantic, ingratiating and servile to despots whose interest is only in how easy it is to manipulate him.

Putin gets to stand in front of an international press alongside the president of the USA who declares that the rising conflict between the countries is the USA's fault (i.e. not events like the annexation of Crimea), to have the president of the USA publicly question the ability of his own intelligence services and defer to Russia's president, and to have a president that even in solely domestic circles repeatedly licks Putin's butt admiring how powerful he is, how masterful.

Kim Jong Un gets to stand in front of an international press alongside the president of the USA as a legitimate statesman, grinning and shaking hands with the leader of the free world, gaining concessions seemingly for free with the president falling over himself to praise the leadership, strength, and intelligence of the leader of one of the last violent autocracies on the planet.

It's fucking cuckoo land. Yet his supporters, even having had their minds spun around 180 in just months after years of hawkish narratives from propaganda outlets like Fox, will now join in with the chorus of anger at Europe, Australia, and Canada and belt out the refrain of how vital it is the USA has good relations with their nation's actual enemies and how their own government is secretly conspiring against them.

There are many flaws with democracy, but an uneducated electorate coupled with television propaganda is by far the most detrimental. If you can lead a public into this degree of self-harm, then you can pull them anywhere you want.

Greetings,

Trump is a Putin-wannabe: a popular strongman who's filthy rich.

That's why he behaves the way he does. And, given his narcissism, that's how he sees himself.

Kindest regards,

James

Would Putin know some of Trump's dirty secrets and blackmail him to be like that? Because i don't find Trump being stupid/narcissistic/Putin-wannabe to be enough to explain his behavior on it's own. Maybe a combination of some or all of those factors.

There's already ample evidence that the Trump campaign conspired with Russia, but I'm personally of the mind that it's unlikely that Trump's being blackmailed via a golden shower tape. I think the Russian connection is something else... maybe some tax evasion shenanigans and property deals with shady people, or maybe some coordination between Russian government officials and the campaign team that Trump was directly involved with, possibly to do with hacking, leaks and coordination of their releases, but to what I see of Trump, most likely about money.

Any which way, the US has descended into an absolute fucking farce. You've got a president who apparently benefited from a hostile foreign influence over the election - the bedrock of democracy - expending vast amounts of his time and presidential power deriding and undermining the investigation first into Russia's role then into the investigation into his role, then repeatedly declaring himself exonerated by further worrying revelations, nodding at pardons for those found guilty of various offenses related to his dodgy campaign who don't cave, using mob type language to threaten and demean those who question his actions, he's fired key people into the investigation of his complicity with the Russians, routinely attacked key elements of the apparatus of the intelligence service, blasted judges who don't come to the verdict he'd prefer, painted the free press as enemies of the people (where did those constitutionalist Republicans disappear to?)... the list goes on and on of utter shambolic lunacy driven by a disturbed, unbalanced individual with a deeply warped grasp of reality. Barely a day has gone past without corruption and scandal whirling around the White House, and the news cycle simply cannot keep up with the on-going train wreck. Abroad, the long term allies of the USA are being economically threatened and bullied while the despotic, autocratic and fractious nations are beginning to realize that anything fucking goes right now.

How far does the U.S.A. need to fall before so many useful fools stop supporting a man terminally unfit for any office, let alone the highest in the land?
