Vatican 'must immediately remove' child abusers - UN

The UN has said that the Vatican should "immediately remove" all clergy who are known or suspected child abusers.

The UN watchdog for children's rights denounced the Holy See for adopting policies which allowed priests to sexually abuse thousands of children.

In a report, it also criticised Vatican attitudes towards homosexuality, contraception and abortion.

The Vatican responded by saying it would examine the report - but also accused its authors of interference.

A group representing the victims of abuse by priests in the US welcomed the report.

In its findings, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) said the Holy See should open its files on members of the clergy who had "concealed their crimes" so that they could be held accountable by the authorities.

Love it! Serial pedophile enablers getting bashed by a relatively neutral party. The bit about opening the Vatican's files is very important, they've concealed so much abuse over the years it's impossible to trust them to do anything right without oversight.

This will be a perfect opportunity to see if Pope Frances is actually the peoples Pope. He has been getting a lot of praise, which I think is highly undeserved. However, if he gives up those files and takes action against the pedophiles; now that would be praise worthy.

Sad the UN did not notice the Roman Catholic's tendicy towards mass murder.

Banning the Roman Catholic Church would have greatly improved the UN's credability.

Or is it so easily forgotten that the only reason the Vatican is a STATE (and thus a member in the UN),... is because Benito Musolini made this happen?

Roman Catholicism and Fascism go hand in hand. ... Atleast in the past.

I am sure this pedophiliac organisation will CUM up with many excuses.

Freck you! You had 2000 years,... you shut up now and let reasonable people make the decisions.

Firstly, the UN has no authority to ban a religion. Secondly, the UN adheres to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, of which freedom of religion is a core tenet, because unlike you, the UN isn't a stroppy teenager.

Is Roman Catholic Church a religion or an organisation?

Both, but to ban it still infringes on freedom of belief.
Does that apply only in this spesific, Roman Catholic, case, or to religious organisations and religions in general?

Not that I don't agree that there is really no need to ban either the Roman Catholic faith, or the Roman Catholic Church, at this moment (though in a better world a bushelfull of Catholic higherups, including Herr Ratzinger, would in prison for crimes against children) but I find the question of possibly banning a religion or a church interesting.

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.[sup]1[/sup]

With regards to Roman Catholicism, there is no distinction between the belief and the church. Catholics are the church, they are the institution.
