Hi guys.

As our blurb says:
The League of Reason Presents... is the still new, brand new podcast created by members of The League of Reason forum.

The aim of this podcast is to bring our diverse and versatile members together with a new level of interaction and participation. Each month (or so), our members choose a topic of discussion and can abuse us with shameless self-promotion by submitting extra content* (this could be - but is by no means limited to - an essay on a particular topic for our hosts to discuss, an episode-themed parody song, or a poem you're proud of and want to share with the world). They can be interiewees or perhaps even co-host a show! We don't stick to any rigid segments outside of the main discussion, so practically anything is considered for broadcast!

and we'd like to formally open the floor to you, the patrons of this fine establishment.

In this thread, you can give us suggestions for the over all topic (to give an example, episode 2's theme is crackpot theories), and if you're willing, suggestions for specific avenues you think we should focus on.

We'd also be thrilled to have guests with related insights into the topic too, so if you think you are suited or want to point us in the direction of someone (whether that's a blog, video or YouTube channel), post along with the theme, and we'll see what we can do. No promises, obviously ;)

Good hunting!

If those crackpot theories include conspiratorial theories, then perhaps this is worth a mention... http://www.leagueofreason.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=128637#p128637

(Shameless Self-Promotion FTW, lol)

:)
edit:
And my latest blog-post dealt with some deeper crackpottery. :)

Thanks Dean. Feel free to add them here. :)

This thread is for episode 3 topic suggestions.

I've been binging on video series lately and one thing that jumps out at me is tone. From the scathingly calculated denouncements of AronRa to over the top toilet humor of others, it would seem that there's a lot of hateful speech in our little community. Is it a backlash against religious condemnations? Arrogance of those with greater intellect or education against those with less? Simply our own language to define our community in the way that hating whitey is for some groups in the US? An interesting discussion, I think.

You haven't specified "our little community", so I'll make an assumption. I don't see much point in discussing either YouTube atheists (as an overall topic) or other atheist "groups" for three reasons:

1. The original show covered whether there was an atheist community (on YouTube and at large - IIRC they decided upon sort-of-but-not-really), and the pros and cons of describing yourself as part of it. This site came about because a number of YouTube atheists were being DMCA'd, not because a bunch of atheists wanted to club together.

2. The limits of taste are dependent upon the observer, and will therefore necessarily reflect the views of the hosts, and the one thing we all agree on (I'm including you here - feel free to correct me) is that the freedom to express yourself is paramount, so whether you are offended by blood, swearing, big words or liberals really doesn't matter. What you consider "hateful speech" isn't necessarily so, and if it was, a simple note to YouTube takes care of it (read the T&Cs). Sure, you come across the UltimateBlasphemer (pre-epiphany) types now and again, but they vanish as quickly as their positions are scrutinised. A good example of this was the recent dribble of race realists whose argument crumbled almost as fast as TruthfulChristian's pinecones disprove evolution shtick.

3. It's boring. Saying Coughlan is a dick (true), TheAmazingAtheist is an aggressive yet comically impotent arsehole (my view) or Thunderf00t is a egotistical bigot (arguable but evidence suggests yes, he is a bit) doesn't really make for an interesting discussion IMO. It's all been said. I will admit that anyone who belongs to "the brights" deserve some ridicule.

The decision isn't mine, but I don't imagine this'll keep us talking for 45 minutes... Don't be disheartened, if you fancy, you can elaborate on why it would be interesting, and of course, were this topic chosen, you could put yourself forward to argue the case on the show itself (microphone and computer required). :)

Show 3 has been (pre)-recorded, owing to the fact that neither Joe nor Hytegia showed up, so Noth, Prole and I had to wing it. We have a fair amount of material together and it should be in the editing process. We talked about the debates, but I'm not sure how much of that will remain in the actual show.

Release date, conservatively, is in two weeks. If we re-record it with Joe and Hytegia, make that three weeks.

Any update on the release/recording of episode 3, Prole? :)

We've had some manpower issues, but with any luck we'll have episode 2 out this month. Apologies :)

We could discuss the several debates going on here.

Yep ;)

We're looking for a theme too.

Edit: Looks like Inferno stopped in first. It's episode 2 we're releasing next, dude

Two sounds like three sounds like four... not really, but in my defence I'm really tired. Still trying to type something up on the origin of sexuality. Not tonight though, apparently.

Aww, sorry :)

The origin of sexuality is probably Indian.

I didn't bother to read that topic, what a bloody waste it seemed after his opener.
The origin of good and exciting sex is probably Indian. ;)

The origin of contorted and uncomfortable sex is probably Indian. ;)

I corrected your spelling errors, I hope that's alright.
