Thinking about writing a short story...

...but Im completely tapped on ideas. Maybe its school starting, I dunno. Just want to flex my writing muscles, and am in need of a good jumping point. Nothing too detailed, just enough to get the motor running, and any themes/topics/genres will do.

Write a poem about the cosmos. ;)

"Every blade of grass has its angel that bends over it and whispers, 'Grow, grow.'" - The Talmud.

I imagine, that might become a rather boring job. I wonder what grass angel watercooler talk would sound like, do they have a bowling league? :D

Two sentient amphibian life forms from the area around the left side of the Rosette nebula, a planet named George. They're sitting together in a pub just outside Dunstable in Kent, England, a cricket game is being played outside.

Now you go :D

I'm currently spending quite a bit of time writing a "short" story. I basically went looking for an interesting historical figure to write a story around, then twisted it. In my case, I took Tiberius Gracchus, a man who served in the Roman military before beginning a prestigious political career which eventually (after his own murder) set the scene for the overthrow of the republic and dawn of the empire.
I'm setting it some 900-1500 years in the future, in an interstellar republic increasingly dominated by Earth and the central colonies, breeding resentment amongst the outer worlds which provide food for the rest of the republic (in a similar manner to how the rich Romans drove out the poor from the countryside of Italy, starting a period of unrest).

Sounds like a book called "Cestus Dei", its about Space-Rome with nukes. Havent had a chance to read it myself, and its been sitting on my shelf for a few years, but it looks half decent.

I was thinking of writing a story about a guy who goes on an amphetamine binge and ends up developing a strange psychosis, that causes him to become less and less able to distinguish between his dreams and his increasingly disjointed reality.

That's as far as I've got with the idea though...

That sounds suspiciously similar to how I generally spend a typical Tuesday.

Write it. :) See what happens.

I was toying the idea of writing a story about a fictional cult with a huge following, led by a fictional cult leader from the 600's of AD. Sequels of the story would describe how this cult grew to gain a much more massive following in the 1400 years that followed the leader's death. Man, that could run into volumes!

Except for the fictional elements, the story of the cult and its leader already exists. I just have to copy it and change the names :p (Can anyone guess?)

Sad part is, I'm not a writer. :(

I'll let you use my idea since I can't be bothered to write a story.

It's about an 8 foot tall cyclops named George who wears a fez and a loincloth. The other Ogres cast him out of their group for being small and puny (At least in comparison to other Ogres, though he would crush a human.) and he runs away in tears but bumps into a Fox named, erm, Mr Fox and they go to, uh, somewhere and do something and there's some bad guys who try to stop them from whatever they are doing but George and Mr Fox win the day and then, uh, THE END.

The finer details might need SOME working out, but I shall leave that to you since I can't be assed to write a story.
