I atended a religious group called "Escuadrón" that is prety much like the boy scouts but where religion was deeply emphasied as was physical excercise (some times bordering on abuse) in the name of "la virgen de Guadalupe" which is one of many of the virgin Mary representations that the Catholic church alows.
At the time it seemed like good wholesome fun, looking back at it, I was being indoctrinated into a cult like mentality where any free thought was frowned upon. Don't get me wrong most of us were convinced we were just having fun in nature and playing games but the religious messages being spewed were rather extreme (lighting crosses to signify the light of Jesus, walking 50 Kilometers in the name of The virgin Mary, enduring sleep deprivation and extreme phisical exahustion while being forcefed "evidence" for miracles and Jesus' pasing thrugh earth.)
I feel sorry for the kids that have been brought up to believe such nonesense and anger towards the church asholes that promote it (the parents are just brainwashed adults who believe they are doing right by their children).
It realy infuriates me when I see children being indoctrinated, they can't deffend themselves and so the church continues to prey upon them.
And the problem is that what goes into a person's mind early on is usualy what is most difficult to get out, I still (after 20 years of atheism) have to remind myself that no one is watching me and judging me (except for ceilingcat)
and now let's watch a few jesus camp videos to get the old blood boiling
