The Orville

I've been watching this show on recommendation by a friend who knows I like Star Trek. It's basically a pastiche of Star Trek created by Seth MacFarlane.

As of this post, I've only made it up to and through the second episode, and so far, I think I like what I see. It definitely has something of an old-school Star Trek feel, though with... how shall I say it? A slightly more raunchy sense of humor. (Personally, I'm comparing it to TNG; I didn't like TOS)

Not that I mind the humor, though, and frankly, I can deal with it so long as it's not the focus. In this case, it doesn't seem to be. The show really does seem to work as a throwback to old-school Star Trek. I hear even some Trek alumni work on the show as well; the actress who portrayed Kasidy Yates on DS9 is playing the Orville's doctor, for example.

The show has been renewed for a second season, so I'm interested in seeing where it goes after I finish the first one.

Has anyone else here seen this show? If so, any thoughts?

Yes and I love it. It just gets better the more you watch and it seems to come into its own mid 1st season.

It tackles some interesting issues and is basically what I expect from a Star Trek show. I can't wait for the 2nd season.

Not watched it yet but I was gifted a USB with the episodes on. Interesting to compare it to ST Discovery, which I’m really enjoying, flaws and all.
