Hi well read men, women and inbetweens of reason. My name is Graham; a South-African born British citizen currently living in Berlin. I apologize for not having an immaculately written, impressively credential-filled or exceptionally long intro that others have posted before me. My story is basically I've long wanted to get off my arse (or rather, stay firmly on it) and post on this forum for a while now, and having become more active on Facebook science and philosophy groups as of late, I finally felt compelled to create an account here, maybe get involved in some debates and hopefully learn quite a lot from some of the marvellously learned and eloquent individuals here.
I originally was brought to your site through some AronRa's epic discussions (not going to lie...I read the entirety of the 'debates' with Dotoree and OFNF, and actually enjoyed doing so ), but since then I've occasionally stalked the threads, listened to the old episodes of the podcast and followed your Facebook/Twitter feeds. Thanks for the latter btw, the updates are always a great thing to come across. Your forum is definetly my go to retort though whenever people say "How can anyone have a reasonable discussion online?"
In terms of myself, my background and education is in Journalism. Whilst that does leave me clueless when it comes to any in-depth discussions on science, technology and indeed much of anything, it has made me quite proficient in the ancient art of debunking (a.k.a actually reading and checking sources ala Potholer54) junky news articles that anti-science advocates, conspiracy theorists etc. frequently post on my facebook feed, and sometimes sadly my own local Humanist and Skeptic group pages. It also means when the communities I'm involved with need someone who can actually turn their facts into copy, I'm the best, least qualified person for the job
Elsewhere I take a casual interest in Epistemology, Agriculture and Politics outside of the West. In terms of things that really matter though, I'm a sucker for foreign cinema, the independent comic book scene, podcasting and the larger world of independent radio.
Look forward to posting here, and getting to know some of you better (at least in a way that less resembles a parasocial relationship)
