"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

Tell me I'm not the only one that finds the Amazing Atheist annoying as hell...

I'm really curious why the OP has created 2 threads just to quote that fool. Seems rather divisive :geek:

I can see why his style can annoy people, yet personally I have no issues with it.

I completely agreed. I've never thought he was anything more than angry and childish, and certainly not quotable. If you want a quotable provocative person George Carlin all the way!

Atheism is a non-prophet organization.
George Carlin

Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity.
George Carlin

I have as much authority as the Pope, I just don't have as many people who believe it.
George Carlin

I think people should be allowed to do anything they want. We haven't tried that for a while. Maybe this time it'll work.
George Carlin

I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me - they're cramming for their final exam.
George Carlin

I would never want to be a member of a group whose symbol was a guy nailed to two pieces of wood.

Re: post any notable quotes you can find here.

clarifications:

Carlin was an awesome and genius individual.but i never got the chance too see anything he did.

and i can agree with you that TJ can be a childish asshole with a topping of douchebaggery.but that's what I liked about him when i first found him.you may not agree.that's ok with me.your entitled to your opinion.

i definitely agree that the quotes from Carlin is much better but since i never saw anything he did i had no reference.

i made both but i did not intend too.i accidentally hit the "post new topic" instead of "add new reply" and a moderator was quick on closing that topic.so no harm done right?

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
-Albert Einstein

"Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."
, Thomas Jefferson

You don't have to be handicapped to be different. Everyone is different!"
-Kim Peek

And something from Neil Degrasse Tyson about people being starstuff.

Thought of another one:
Ultima Ratio Regum ("last argument of kings")

That is an incredibly stupid thing to say. If you remain silent you will never know that you are wrong in most cases and that goes contrary to just about every thing rational people tend to hold true.

It's just a meant to be a clever putdown not Life advice.

Like Winston Churchill's many awesome one liners...
Some Lady: You're drunk!
Winston Churchill: Yes, I am drunk. But by tommorow morning, I will be sober, and you will still be ugly.

Some lady: If I were your wife, I'd poison your tea!
Winston Churchill: If I were your husband, I would drink it!

Sorry, these two are probably not exact.

hey.it wasn't me who said it.and i think that particular line applies more to people who do not know what they are talking about.

that's the way it is with creationists.you don't know for sure if they are ignorant.but as soon as they open their mouths you get confirmation of your suspicion.

another great one from Churchill:

There are two things that are more difficult than making an after-dinner speech: climbing a wall which is leaning toward you and kissing a girl who is leaning away from you.

Right, I remembered Neil Tyson quoting Sagan, thanks.

Born again?! No, I'm not. Excuse me for getting it right the first time.
Dennis Miller

Creationists make it sound as though a 'theory' is something you dreamt up after being drunk all night.
Isaac Asimov

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.
Galileo Galilei
