** STICKY ** MEMBERS QUOTES

Hopefully this thread will fill up with little gems of thought from members of the forum, and just about any type of quote on any topic is acceptable.

But, to keep each other honest, and in an attempt to maintain a reasonable standard, there are a few simple rules.

RULES:

1: You can only quote other people,.............it avoids egotism, and by and large other people are better at deciding the worth of our words, not ourselves.

2: All quotes should be LoR member originals,............don't quote people quoting other people, and please try to attribute quotes to the correct authors.

3: Keep it friendly,............no matter how wittily someone was put down, the idea of this thread is not to record ad homs, or bitterness and recrimination.

I think that should do it, but we can always modify the rules later if need be.

Hmm, this might violate rule three but it was pretty funny.

No, you see, take a peach. This peach will be the earth. See the proportion of the skin, the meat, and the pit? Now cut it in half and swallow the pit. While you are recovering in the hospital, ask the nurse to bring you some books on geology, physics, and planetary composition.

yeah the peach one was genius, that "earth is going to explode thread" hahah.

im thinking about half of this thread will be filled with quotes from Joe

I'm prety sure the conspiracy theory thread and pseudoscience are stack fulled with them. Perhaps I will take a look at them later

Not arguing for or against, just an observation; isn't it kinda sad we have to make a label that says, "yes, we accept reality" simply because others don't wanna?

Yep. But life sucks that way.

We don't criticize the New Age movement because of the con artists it attracts. We criticize it because it, like religion in general, requires the fundamental rejection of science and/or rational thought. Replacing organized religion with New Age spiritualism is just replacing madness with a different flavor of madness.

Well, what I got was magical dwarves hold up the universe using telekinesis so we don't implode, and that somehow creates a magnetic field ROUND YOUR MINDZ, so we must kill them using the triangle of cubieness...

This is actually causing me physical pain. Imagine the mental equivalent of going downhill on a bicycle and getting a stick caught in the front spokes. That is what I'm feeling.

Pseudo-science is a freaking gold mine.

Seriously children, we put up with your make-believe stories, your whiny tantrums, and your incessant squabbles with siblings, but for the moment could you just stay out from underfoot? The adults have important work to do.

@Nasher168

Regardless of your personal feelings about the quote, you've just immortalised an abusive post which was exactly the sort of thing I thought we should avoid,...that's why I put it in the rules.

AND.....Nasher,...do you really think that was a great quote? "STFU!" might be very emotive, but it's hardly Oscar Wilde is it?

The writing wasn't eloquent or anything, but it said what really needed to be said in that context.
That said, I didn't really look at rule 3 of this thread when I posted it...
Happy?

If I remember correctly, Neph said in one of his videos that he has done "over two years of research on the internet", or something equally stupid.

TWO WHOLE YEARS at Google-U! Wow, I'm impressed.

Now I know why he told me I was unqualified to give an opinion once, I only went to one of those old fashioned schools.
