I stopped watching Stargate SG1 after they cruely stole the 2 main characters from Farscape  . I got into the first few episodes of SG: Universe but kind of drifted out. I've never watched any of the other spinoffs though like Atlantis.

SG-1 was fantastic. It could never take itself seriously and I was always looking forward to the next episode.
Atlantis was okay - Teyla annoyed the hell out of me.
Universe is just dark and weepy. I don't like it.

SG-1 was pretty funny, but Atlantis was what I would colloquially describe as mostly pants; it's saving grace was the McKay fellow. BSG-1, er I mean SGU is getting better, but the first batch of episodes were tedious.

I just watched the first stargate movie, which is my favorite when it comes to this topic. When I was little, I've seen a few episodes of the series, but I prefer cartoon network or anime over such. Hehe.

I've watched all of the SG-1, the movies, a bit over a season of atlantis and half of the first season in universe. Personally I like SG-1 through and through and since all the movies really tie into the SG-1 storyline they're great.

Atlantis was just bad for the most part of it. Of course the cast and episodes were written propably as good as the original, but that's likely the problem: It just seems like more of the same with a different cast. And then there are the annoying bug-vampire-folk that are just silly.

Universe was so out there that even though it's very similar in principle, there still is enough to twist the whole thing to something fresh. Still, it doesn't seem to have quite the appeal of the original. Even with an emotionless, cold and calculative genius, that is the best this series has to offer(quite frankly the only reason I've watched it as much as I have), it still doesn't have quite the appeal.

SG-1 I've enjoyed from start to finish, through all 10 seasons and movies to top it off.

SG-1 was a phenomenal sci-fi series. Kind of ironic, since it's a TV show continuation to an ok movie. Atlantis was at it's core exactly like SG-1, just slightly crappier. Crappier acting, crappier characters (with the exception of McKay) and a crappier setting. So it was at least watchable, if you can get over Weir delivering every line the exact same way! Battlestargatelactica was just awful. That's all I have to say.

Anyway, I'm going to try and spur a little discussion if I can. Do any of you who liked Stargate also like Star Trek? I find that I don't. Not really. It doesn't have to do with nerd factioning or anything. I tried watching Star Trek, but I could just never get into it the way I did with Stargate. I want to see if other people feel the same way.

SG1 I can watch and enjoy. Started watching Atlantis and SGU but gave up fairly quickly, not really a Star Trek fan either.

did use to watch star trek but got board of it.
Going back to stargate, syfy is canceling season 3 of SGU. It was never as good as sg-1 or SGA but it had a good few crossovers where we got to see some old familiar faces and we have learned a lot about the ancients recently as well.

Or, it was a million times better than SG-1 and SGA, interrupted by some unnecessary appearances from crappy characters and concepts from the other shows. Since the show didn't satisfy old viewers or new, it got cancelled.

My thoughts exactly +1 to that.

I,´ve heard that Stargate Universe got better in season 2 but in my opinion its too little to late.

It seems that the team behind SG:U missed the day in school where they though basic tv-show making the rule is very simple first one Season 1 serves as the introduction of the show/the part that will lure your viewers in and make you money second if your going to make your show character based make damn sure that EVERY character in the show is VERY interesting and people like them.
If you fail to do that all you,´ll end up with is disappointment and few to no viewers and that,´s exactly what SG:U was season 1 was boring and uninteresting and VERY little happened i mean for crying out loud you got and ENTIRE ship to explore!

The first thing i,´ed do if stuck on it was that after having secured the most basic need for my survival on this ship i,´ed start to explore and see what was what.
I can,´t enter certain rooms while the ship is in hyperdrive, because they are damaged and open into space? No problem i got a window of opportunity every time the ship slips out of hyperdrive to go explore heck i even got a few spacsuits so a vacuum is no problem at all.

After i make a notice of the ship i,´ll start the repair because i even got a few tools here and there Take some iron plating and weld them on the holes and vola i got some new rooms to use.

Already there i got the basics for a fine Season 1 that will keep the audience hooked what new location of the ship will i discover today and what mystery will be unearthed Season 2 you can start showing evidence that your not alone and keep it interesting.

Season 2 starts (from what i,´ve heard) to do all the things that Season 1 should have done but what,´s the use when you already scared most of your viewers away with a VERY crappy season 1

Even though I can't stand Atlantis, I love this episode.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Bill Nye is an epic wingman.
