Hai! so the other day I was Facebook checking status updates and doing what everyone else does on Facebook (pretty much nothing) when I stumbled upon a quote a "friend" of mine posted.
"John Adams was a farmer, Abraham Lincoln was a small town lawyer, Plato and Socrates were Teachers, Jesus...was a carpenter....to equate judgment and wisdom with occupation, is at best....insulting..."

I then posted on this status.
"Abraham Lincoln was a scumbag."

which is followed by this rude and insulting comment.
"Yeah let's keep those Negros down, Nate!"

Now I won't even get into how incredibly offensive and illogical such a claim is but I respond.
Nate: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery... Read More, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union. I shall do less whenever I shall believe what I am doing hurts the cause, and I shall do more whenever I shall believe doing more will help the cause. I shall try to correct errors when shown to be errors; and I shall adopt new views so fast as they shall appear to be true view."-Abraham Lincoln.

Sounds like a wishy-washy, raging statist piece of s**t to me.

Person 1: "Nate, I love ya man, but sometimes ya just need to shut up...your comments were not needed, uncalled for, and completely missed the point of what my status was saying. I personally don't care what his politics were or what kind of person he was... he is judged by and history will remeber most, his actions...and in those terms he was a wise man. I don't care if you disagree or whatever you think about the topic and I'd appreciate it if you didn't post comments like this on my page. Thank you."

Nate: Truth is more important than personal comfort and if you feel otherwise then that's really unfortunate but I personally won't stand for anyone calling me a racist, jokingly or not and I will not stand on the side of "history" if it sides with people I don't agree with.

Your status says to judge people not by their profession but by their actions and their words and that is precisely what I am doing.

What actions are you talking about? his unlawful and unconstitutional invasion of the south? his stranglehold of the monetary supply with the national bank act of 1863? his unjust killing of southern PoW's? The insane generals he appointed who went into villages and burned everything to the ground? his blatant racism? his corporate interests with railroad companies?

I'll say what I please and where I please to say it and if you have a problem with that then that's your issue, not mine. Silencing an opinion is not a valid form of argument and it's pathetic that you would try.

Person 1: Really? your going to stoop so low as to call me pathetic? F**k you sir, what the hell is your damn problem? This is MY page and I do have a say in what is or isn't posted here, this isn't some attempt to silence your opinion, I could give a crap less, this is an attempt to keep your unwarranted, unneeded and radical comments to yourself....that ...being said I should have you flagged for the comments you've made. I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about anything you've said though, that's a fruitless effort and a waste of my time as you'll argue till your blue in the face about anything and everything whether your right or wrong and I'm sick of it. Go take that crap elsewhere and keep your damn opinions to yourself from now on....or are you going to take this farther than it needs to?

Apparently I called him pathetic and I should keep my mouth shut because I don't agree with him and my comments are apparently unwarranted and uncalled for. last I checked the status update said something about Abe Lincoln and I posted my opinion about him, I was then called a racist and I then bring evidence to support my claim. but I digress.
Person 2: "Nate, you implied Abraham being a scumbag as fact when it is clearly subjective. Do you have a problem with all politicians? You seem to have a problem with any sort of order, be it politics, religion, etc.. Not everything is a giant conspiracy meant to fuck with the life of Nate Winslow. Let's just chill out guys."

baseless projections and errors in reasoning never seem to stop from their fingertips. nor do either of them address the fact that I was called a racist.
Nate: "@ person 1: Actually, all the material on this website actually belongs to Facebook, you don't own any of the material you post on here. People are totally free to say whatever it is they like where ever they choose to say it and if you disagree then there's a document called the bill of rights that says otherwise. If you wish to falsely flag me for the comments I said then you are free to do so, just know that I will file a counter notice and you will lose, unless this is just your way to intimidate me and in which case you have the moral behavior of a whiny six year old child. I'm not arguing anything, I'm standing up for what I believe in and presenting factual evidence for why I believe what I do. I will gladly accept people's opinions for what they are, it is YOU who won't. Censorship is not a valid form of argument and it only proves how weak your character actually is. I take what I say seriously and maybe you should too before threatening peoples right to free speech."

a couple of minor errors but I believe my point is properly addressed.
Nate: "@ person 2: If what I said is "clearly" subjective, then wouldn't the argument that Abraham Lincoln is a "good" person also be subjective, or are you holding a double standard and shifting goal posts? Point being that it is not subjective at all, it's an objective claim based upon evidence, just like the rest of reality. I don't see how that question is relevant but to answer it, no, I do not but I do have a problem with people that send other people to die for no reason only to have corporate interests realized. I don't have a problem with order and quite frankly it's rather rude of you to project such a stereotype upon me. Just because we don't agree doesn't mean that I am some sort of wack job which seems to be what you are implying. If you want to read more on the subject there are plenty of good books."

Person 1: "Ugh, I've been doing this a lot lately...going back after the fact and whatnot, so ignore the previous response. Look man, I REALLY don't know what your problem is, but I'm not gonna sit here and deal with it right now. All I did was post what I thought was an awesome quote and you came in here and ruined it. Not everyone cares about whether or not Lincoln was a douche...I know I don't...call me ignorant or pathetic or whatever, I honestly don't care. Let me live my life in sweet ignorance, don't shove this "truth" crap down my throat, I don't want it.

To say that I don't accept other people's opinions is incredibly false and just shows how ignorant to "truth" that you, yourself are, there's a difference between accepting someone's opinion and just plain not caring about it...when you learn this difference, then you will understand why you are incredibly annoying when it comes to things like this. There's the old saying "If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it"."

HA HA HA!!! he says he doesn't care yet he is one threatening my freedom of speech on a website that has absolutely no control over...apparently you do.
person 1: "So here's the thing...LET IT GO...I'm only gonna say this one last time. I already discarded one friend this week who showed their true colors so I won't hesitate to do it again, I have no room in my life for false friends who will tear me down at the drop of a hat like you have done in the last few comments."

wow more threats.
person 2: "Nate, let me say this. I don't know you, I don't give a shit about you. You certainly don't need to think Lincoln was great, but it is incredibly rude of you to come to a "friends" profile and flat out be a jerk. If you don't agree, don't give Brett shit for it. Is that so hard to comprehend? Someone with your faux-intellect should be able to grasp... Read More something so simple. You're using a quote and saying that your opinion is truth. No, it isn't. Your arguments are littered with informal fallacies to the point that it's disgusting and pointless to sift through. There's no point having a discussion with you since you don't utilize logic; a basic philosophical class clears this up quite nicely. If you want to read more on the subject matter (aka being intelligent), there are plenty of good books. I will not check this again, so maybe you should grow a pair and let this go like the rest of us."

"Person 2's Argument:
Premise 1: Abe was a good person (for no specified reason)
Premise 2: people who do not agree with that are racist.
Conslusion: Therefore, Nate is a racist.

Nate's Argument:
Premise 1: People who do horrible things are horrible people.
Premise 2: Abe Lincoln did horrible things.
Conslusion: therefore, Abe is a horrible person.

If you post something on a public website then people are free to criticize or agree with it regardless of the opinion of the original poster. Again, people are free to say whatever it is they want. That is the point of posting something in the first place.

I didn't threaten to falsely flag a person's account. I didn't call anyone racist, I didn't threaten to stop being friends with someone because they have a different opinion than me. These are all things the both of you have done. I said you can do whatever it is you want but why are you saying I can't do the same? that's absurd."
