Reis van the Beagle, translated: Travel of the Beagle.
A dutch program about the Beagle project.

The Beagle project will reconstruct Darwin's 5-year long voyage on the HMS Beagle in the course of one year, and make an attempt to assess where the world stands today in light of Darwin's evolution theory. As Charles Darwin pondered on the origin of species, our focus will now be on the future: Do we have reason to worry?

This sunday was the first episode of the show and where you can view the recent episode on their website (not (yet) on their youtube account) for those who missed it. unfortunely, its mostly in dutch... so most of you will have trouble watching it.

although it is unfortune that at this point most will not be able to enjoy, i want to know what you people think of such a program?

I'll expand a bit on this, as it deserves far more attention.

The Dutch public television, in collaboration with the Belgian public television, started a very ambitious (cost: €12 million) project: to re-enact the journey of the Beagle on an 8 month trip with a beautiful clipper. In 35 TV episodes, they will talk about Darwin & evolution, and the scientists on board will perform experiments and report on the state of the planet today. Also, many descendants of Darwin will join the journey, most notably biologist Sarah Darwin (Charles' great-great-granddaughter). Apart from the TV episodes, the crew is on twitter, youtube and facebook.

Indeed, most is in Dutch, which is a real shame, because this deserves a world-wide audience (the facebook page is mostly in English though). I've seen the first episode, and it's brilliant. They've put it on their website, at the moment in a ridiculously poor quality, and without subtitles. I hope they'll fix this later, so others can enjoy it as well.
