Powerpoint to Video

I've been looking into different methods of video production which wouldn't involve me filming myself and discovered that cdk uses a powerpoint to video problem which seems to work quite well. However it has a watermark as it's a free version of a must larger programme.

That said, does anybody know of a free and reliable Powerpoint to Video program which won't watermark my videos?
Additionally, what are people's opinions and experiences regarding these programs?

Power Video Maker.
It's what CDK007 uses.
Unfortunately, it does say "Unregistered Power Video Maker" in small writing at the bottom right. Watch CDK's videos and see if you could tolerate such an addition on your own.

That's the program I refer to in my post, lol.

Bugger... I need to be more observant...

EDIT:
CamStudio. It is free screen capture software. Simply film the whole screen and do the editing in Movie Maker. Thunderf00t uses it, and I've had it for a while, so it's definitely safe.

I used a trial version of camtasia in business infotech course. Full version is $299 though...

If you wanted to do a shortcut, you could use a regular screen capture program with powerpoint in fullscreen(F5). You would have to make some considerations when setting it up for the aspect ratio, but it should work no problem.

I recently downloaded camstudio and have been trying it out, I think you mentioned it in another thread a few days ago. Thanks.

I'd never either considered that, that sounds like a pretty good idea. Thanks.

There a shareware programs to do that here :
http://3d2f.com/tags/pptx/to/avi/

I am pretty certain they are available on illegal sites, but I am not encouraging anybody to go there ;)

Anyone got any tips to help convert .gif to .avi or something? Because I have a few gifs I want in my videos but I can't use them (they just show up as the first frame)

You can also use camstudio for this. Link is a few posts above. It's not a converter, but you can capture the gif and save it to AVI.

Or use adobe software. Premiere can use gifs in video.

This really should have gone in a new thread cus it has nothing to do with this one but...

Drag and drop the file into Windows Movie Maker. Voila!

You can use this program:
http://download.cnet.com/YouTube-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html

It's a youtube video downloader first and foremost, but it also converts .avi, .wmv, .mp4, .mp3 and .flv files into any of the other ones. I've used it for well over a year and a half. There are a couple of bugs (notably, when you download a video you must close and reopen the program to convert something) but it works very well for the most part.

Realplayer (I hate it) is good for downloading video too. The plugin for videodownloading works with any video.

Just be carefull on installation you don't get a toolbar and don't screw up filetypes associated to other programs.

But it gives you a .flv file, which doesn't work with movie maker, which is quite a major downside.

Sorry, I just saw the connection between powerpoint and .gifs and I didn't want to start a new thread about something as minute as one-type file conversion.
But thanks to all for their responses! Greatly appreciated!

I found these three freewares, thanks to Atomicnumber86:
But their comparison pages look alike so I'm really skeptical about them being the same software packaged under different names by different companies.

Has anyone used any of them? I'll probably try using one of them soon. Hopefully they don't have watermarks.

EDIT: Yup, they are the same software with different skins. The screenshots reveal it. I also checked their "Contact Us/About Us" pages and I could only find that ImTOO & Xilisoft are partners and ImTOO claims to be around since 2003, making it the oldest of the three. Anyway I don't understand why companies like to take the same software and just skin it differently and sell it out as their own. I mean what's the point?
EDIT 2: Ignore the above. They are crap. I tried ImTOO and the only thing that's free about it is "Rapid Convert" and even that doesn't work. By extension, the other two must be the same.

I tried CamStudio and it's great!* No watermark.

*EDIT 3: Please see my third post below.

Two other Free PowerPoint to Video converter:

h t t p : / / w w w . p p t - t o - d v d . c o m / f r e e - powerpoint-to-video-converter.html#240

Both are similar products and both have the following limitation:
Only support the conversion of first five slides

CamStudio is still the best.* Not only can it record Powerpoint in real-time, it can record anything on screen.
  • Just remember to tweak the frame-rate to 25 or 30 fps so that you get a smoother video and lower file size. The default setting happens to be 200 fps!
  • Also, install the CamStudio Lossless Codec. It's great for high-quality capture. Although I'm not sure if the video created using this codec can be uploaded to YouTube.

*EDIT: Please see my next post.

These freeware have the limitation, it will disppear after upgrading to pro version.
Yeah, Camstudio is a cool software not only record PowerPoint but also anything others. But it is so expensive.

I will recommend h t t p : / / w w w . p p t - t o - d v d . c o m / p p t -to-video-overview.html#240 version to you, none limitation and inexpensive.

CamStudio is open source freeware! I think you confused with Camtasia Studio. That's different and it is expensive.

Anyway CamStudio (the open source freeware) is after all not that great. The videos are not smooth, hence it's not nice to capture smooth animations and video games.

I found even better software called FastStone Capture. It makes really smooth screen capture movies with very reasonable file sizes. It's not freeware though (30 days trial of full version). Costs about $20 for license to continue using after 30 days. But if you download the portable version, you will be able to reset the trial after 30 days to get another 30 days of use. I tried and it works. (Can resetting trial counter be considered 'software piracy'?)
